Backyard Baseball

"My wife told me to stop complaining about everything or she'd leave me... so here's a compliment. This game has its issues, sure, but the heart of the original is still there. I don't think it's soulless. I think there's a chance we've changed more than it has. The kids who spent entire summers launching Pablo Sánchez moonshots grew up. We got jobs, bills, deadlines, and calendars. Somewhere along the way, our imagination got replaced with Outlook notifications and stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ emails. Maybe the magic didn't disappear—we just stopped showing up with the same eyes. Or maybe I'm just getting old and nostalgic. Either way, it's nice to see *Backyard Baseball* come full circle. Turns out the hardest power-up to unlock was enjoying things again.

Its a perfect mix of nostalgia, fun game play, and the game we grew up with, upgraded to 2026. its beautiful...it really is

This game is one of my favorite games! This game is so fun to play because of how much content there is in the game! I would say this game is worth the price of 40 dollars. But I just love this game!

Very fun and creative, it is also very colorful while it brings back the nostalgia from the 97' game

I came for the nostalgia. I stayed because my ego couldn't handle losing to elementary school baseball players. Super fun, easy to jump into, and packed with the same charm I remember. Great revival of a classic.

I played and loved the original '97 version of BYB and I was genuinely excited when the announcement for the '26 release announced. I purchased the game and I was ecstatic to play the game but that's where it begins to change for me. The batting for this game feels honestly unsatisfying and it feels like the impact of when you deliver a hit feels weaker and just missing that piece that made the batting in '97 so satisfying. The pitching is feels lackluster and no matter where the ball was placed, the opposing team will more often than not hit the ball with such precision and accuracy, it left me scratching my head. There were times that I would the ball nowhere near the inside of the box and the opposing team would still hit it. Fielding in this game feels clunky and unpolished as the opposing team would routinely hit the ball and frequently score or advance bases. There were numerous occasions where I'd would attempt to go for the ball and it would automatically switch to characters that were further away from the ball rather then remain on ones that were closer. Once you manage to get the ball, the opposing runners would have scored or already be on the next bases. Which leads to my final issue with this game and that's the throwing to bases from the in-field feels very weak no matter if you're controlling a player with great stats in fielding or not. The progression of the tossed ball does not travel very far as it makes to about the mid-way of the outfield and on occasion 3/4's of the outfield going to the in-field. By the time it does make it to who you intended to toss to, you already had been scored on at least once. And side note of scoring, once the cpu have a lead on you, it's very difficult to dig yourself out if you're playing on the backyard pro setting as they will continue to score and gain power-ups to advance the lead on you even further. It disappoints me to say that I found BYB '26 very unsatisfying in the aspects that were listed above. I would not recommend this game in its current state until patches are made to address these issues.
