Warning: In-Game Cash Shop This game is infested with a toxic mobile app style cash shop. You will be prompted to and expected to give money/credit card details to the developers through this cash shop to buy in-game goods so you can play the game.
Ayni Fairyland is what looks a lot like a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs trying to cash in on abandoned app store stuff. The mobile app is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. When this first launched I thought, wow, maybe this is a genuinely made, sincere PC game instead of the usual shovelware that pollutes Steam, unfortunately I was wrong. At face value this does look like a real game, but very quickly you see the problems piling up. Taking it seriously as a game, you're gonna have a bad time. It's ostensibly a platformer with lightweight adventure game elements (no RPG elements, despite what the Chinese mobile devs behind this would like you to think). And all of this is assembled very poorly. It's a janky mess. From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. We can say with great certainty that this mobile app is not an asset flip. This is because the assets are of such poor quality that no self respecting asset creator or artist would publish them under any circumstances. The backgrounds are a fuzzy blur, extremely low resolution, too... the game just looks bad. Certainly, nobody likes to see asset recycling, stock assets are intended to be used as placeholders until superior assets can be created by the developer, but when we get what's worse than either stock assets being flipped or professional assets, it's a reason for gamers to go out of their way to avoid the product. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the mobile app unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. In fact, there's no options screen at all... you can't even press ESC to bring up a menu... you'll need to alt + tab and kill the process to stop this game from running. One of the laziest mobile ports ever. PC gamers will be insulted by the interface for this game as the mobile app devs demand you tap/swipe on your screen to interface with the mobile app. While this is probably just due to sheer laziness from the mobile devs behind this mobile app, it's offensive disrespect to PC gamers and a sign of an extremely shoddy mobile port. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. So, should you buy this mobile app? Is this one of the best of the 130,000+ games on Steam? Ayni Fairyland has the utterly unrealistic price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. Because this is the kind of game you can just play for free on mobile phones, it's impossible to recommend anyone should pay money for the same experience on Steam.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this mobile app as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the mobile app (to date). Until this status changes, this mobile app will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this mobile app.
Good! It is a funny adventure little game, not so difficult and I love its music. Can use the game handle. Hope to continue to upgrade.
