Can't give this one a good review, sadly. The bits and pieces seem nice, but it doesn't make for a fun gaming experience. The art and music is perhaps the best aspect of the game, the controls work fine as well. That said the game feels very under-documented, and the games do not seem very fun or balanced, I win every time without even knowing what I am doing. Perhaps the biggest weakness is that you cannot gain experience points except in multiplayer, and I have never been able to find anyone else to play it with. Combined with the near total lack of support, this seems to be an abandoned stub of a game, and not worth purchasing at any price.
This game possesses an obscure combat mechanic, a baffling upgrade system, and a totally inadequate tutorial. The story line should really avoid using actual countries - it merely comes across as absurd. I'll await updates, if any, before trying again. I don't understand it well enough to be bothered at the moment. Apologies - yours, The Grumpster
Good: Art, music, modern/cyberpunk theme, quick games. Bad: Totally undocumented - no manual, no help, no mouseover hints, a pointless 30-second tutorial. No players. It looks like there's a potential game here waiting to be built, but feels like an unfinished alpha or demo. There's no explanation of basic gameplay, why you have two decks, which cards you can draw or play when, why there's a dice button that doesn't seem to do anything, why you sometimes receive cards without drawing them, why the same card sometimes has different costs, what the symbols in the corner of the screen mean, what the numbers on the sides mean, why your attacks sometimes cause more or less damage, how to get the special attacks and what they do, etc. It's all a big black-box mystery. You'd think with not understanding the rules, gameplay, or UI, that it would be difficult. But chances are, you'll win your very first game against the AI anyway, and every game thereafter. There's no real single-player game here in that it would be very difficult to lose even when you have no idea what you're doing. So it relies entirely on multiplayer, but no one seems to be currently playing it. At the moment, only one reviewer has even played for 1 full hour. (You can play over a dozen games in less than an hour.) There's the potential for a game here, but it's been languishing for over a year since release. If the developers come back to it and flesh it out, it could someday become a fun fast card game. But in its current state, unfortunately I can't recommend it.
AXYOS: Battlecards is a lazy, badly made "card battler" from the Russian asset flipper of the same name (Axyos), who's taken a little break from asset flipping that 3rd person hentai girl anime shooter (you know the one, there's dozens of copy + paste flips of it on Steam) to "make" this garbage (it's probably also an asset flip). This is a lame mobile app tier card battler where you swipe around cards on your iPhone screen to deploy soldiers and fight other soldiers. It's badly made, badly explained, incomprehensibly designed, and utterly unfun and valueless if you try to take this seriously as a game. But, like everything from this developer, it's not supposed to be a real game, he just wants your money for lazy Russian shovelware. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features mostly static, barely animated 2D images, the kind of thing you expect to see in browser/flash games. While the artwork itself, while mediocre, might be considered passable, the visual presentation here is negligible, it might as well be a slideshow or a Youtube video. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Asteroids had more advanced animation and visuals going on than this game does. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. This looks and feels like a mobile app, but it doesn't seem to have made it to the app stores. It's unclear why this was put on Steam instead of the app stores it seems to have been designed for. Maybe it was removed, maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes AXYOS: Battlecards might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. We don't spend all this money building gaming rigs so we can pretend they're iPhones and play games that might as well be mobile apps. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. AXYOS: Battlecards didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for starting the game, trivial to get, but less than 23 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality game this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. AXYOS: Battlecards has the gamer gouging price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. Remember that if you buy a game from an unethical developer, you're putting your money at risk.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Интересная карточная игра с небольшим дисбалансом карт, есть некоторые очень читерские, а есть и абсолютно бесполезные. В общем всё как в жизни.
It's fun but TOO REPETITIVE If u wanna try grab it while discount :D
* Hell yeah brother * Gotta say, I'm not a big fan of card games, but for $0.49, I decided to give it a go. It's not bad at all. Great art and graphics, good background sounds. Definitely worth what I paid or even it's full price. One of the best things in this game is probably the multiplayer. 5/5
