Unfortunately the game is a little too difficult, you run into difficulty spikes with just normal enemies before you can even craft weapons. I technically COULD spend 30 hours grinding to become powerful enough to defeat the enemies, but I have better things to do with my time.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ port
This is the first game in this series that I played and for the most part, I loved it. You control a party of characters led by Sophie, whose goal is to become a great alchemist like her grandmother was. You explore areas, collect materials, fight monsters, all while learning new recipes that allow you to got to different areas, collect different materials, fight different monsters, etc. It does get a little repetitive and there are some parts of the game where you practically need outside help to figure out how to get all of the high-end traits onto the best weapons. On the other hand, if you are a min-maxer, you will be able to spend HOURS and HOURS improving your gear.

Has around 8 hours on Switch because the Steam version can't swap A/B. Starting from Ryza 1-3 then back to Sophie makes the experience with Sophie miserable. Although I wouldn't bought Ryza to begin with if I start from Sophie so starting from Ryza is a better idea I guess? The problem with Sophie is that the entire game is nothing more than grinding and little to no exploration of any reason to craft other than the game told you to. The mission is returning a certain character's memory back, but the execution is by fighting monsters or making something (anything). Then repeating that you did the first time over and over 200 more times. And become unbearably boring after 2-3 hours. The last straw for me is "Plachta's Memory 6", where you either have to win 100 battles or craft weapons. But you can't craft weapon yet until you do something specific, which the game doesn't tell you what and all tutorials for this game are surprisingly absolutely useless.
This is the first Atelier game that I have ever played and I'm really enjoying it. I can't get over just how many traits that you can create/apply to your items. Tons of ingredients to find and play around with, and lots of freedom to experiment with different trait combos and ingredient qualities. The battle is also pretty fun. You wear gear that you've made (or made ingredients for), and use attack/healing items that you also made. If you find better ingredients and make better trait combos, you can create some pretty powerful stuff. The story is also pretty cute. It drags in a few places, but I still enjoyed it.

This entry stays true to the core of the Atelier series, offering a familiar yet refined blend of material gathering, item crafting, and time management. It's easy to get absorbed in the alchemy system, which rewards experimentation and efficiency. While the pace is relaxed, the occasional difficulty spike in combat can catch you off guard. However, with smart item use and proper preparation, even tough battles become manageable. It's a thoughtful, well-paced experience that caters best to seasoned Atelier fans or players who appreciate a slower, more strategic RPG.
