Cute game, great graphics but somewhat style over substance. Certain areas of the game are really hard work, e.g .moving items in and out of your bag and into storage. Overall cute game but only viable if you use mouse and keyboard - far too fiddly for a controller.
I have like 4 or 5 hundred hours on this game on my xbox. I had gotten used to the clunky controller UI and controls, so much so that I actually enjoyed the bad controls. Whenever I asked to play this game with my brothers, who were playing on mouse and key, all they would do is complain about the controls. Now, I had thought they were overplaying it and I told them "oooh it's not so bad when you get used to it!" Boy, was I wrong. When I got the game on steam and played it for the first time with mouse and key I finally, truly understood how abysmally ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the controls were. I'd forgotten the hundreds of good hours I've had with this game and could only think about how butt the controls are. So bad in fact, I didn't even want to plug my controller in to play and just wanted to log off. If this was my first time experiencing this game I think I would hate and likely refund it, like my brothers did. Please please please PLEASE change the keyboard and mouse control scheme for this game. And if YOU play this game plug in a controller. It's still bad, but much better.
So when I finally deign to look at the news for the game, what do I find? Limited Time Events and Fear Of Missing Out elements, in a game that I can't see any reason to have such things in? Already some questionable choices in the past, but I suppose this is what tilts it for me. The game itself is alright, for the record. No real fault there other than overly ambitious patches from time to time breaking it and being worked on to fix the mess afterwards. But FOMO nonsense is ridiculous.
This game used to be amazing. But with the addition of buggy patches and microtransactions it's no longer fun.
It feels like the game is actively fighting me when I'm trying to interact with it. From the clunky UI to the borderline nauseating camera smoothing, I don't feel like the game can allow me to have fun with it. Kind of a bummer
not only is the game terrible, the developers are too. I know I have not played for long, but a family member played the game to the end, so some of what i know is from watching them play. you are thrown into the game with no information on how to play or how to survive and you and you are just told to find resin to build something. what does resin look like? guess. how do you harvest resin? you are on your own. oh, and while your trying to find out how to play because there was no tutorial or information, you also need to make sure you don't run out of oxygen, so if you get too far from your base or you will suffocate while desperately trying to figure out where resin is. I remember the story being incomplete, scarce, and the ending was terrible. there are terrible bugs, and the developers blame that on people using mods. (yes, there are still bugs if you have no mods) also I am almost positive they promised the glitchwalkers would be a free update, but then made it paid DLC. they ignore all the bugs and exclusively make new paid DLC to get as much cash as they can, without caring about the players. also, it says I played for forty minutes, but I actually stopped after twenty because it was so bad, and I even had the family member who knew what they were doing with me, it was just that boring of a game.
Astroneer. Imagine Minecraft, but from 3rd perspective, in space. The game looks beautiful. Gameplay is easy to learn and master. Mechanics aren't too hard, and mistakes don't entirely punish the player. I love the ambience, the multiplayer experience, and the ability to destroy everything on your path. Good 8/10
