I have to review this as "not recommended" . I saw this game and thought I Was gonna love it because it´s a single screen pixel art puzzle with a very nice soundtrack, right up my alley (I thought). Clearly a lot of effort and thought was put into this game, I can see that. I love the idea, the concept, but the delivery is not good. The game is just too hard and it is not a relaxing/pleasing experience, it is too frustrating. You have just a couple of seconds to decide which combination of items to use (to shoot at the asteroid). Each item has unique features, just like every tile of the asteroid has unique features. The game is just too complex to be played so fast paced as the devs are intending (to play like tetris).
this game makes me say yass
Before I played ASTRALODE Freeminers, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
5/10

ASTRALODE: Freeminers is a free to play 2D retro pixel Tetris-like mining/block matching game. The objective of the game is to shoot Tetris-like blocks of spaceships at an "asteroid" made up of gems/blocks and match the right ones to collect all the valuable gems/material. What I like about this is that it does seem to be a genuine attempt at making a video game. It's not an asset flip or a cash grab, but a sincere effort. While the resolution can be changed here, it doesn't make a difference, it just scales the ugly 2D retro pixel "art". They chose to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. Controls can be changed, but this is a convoluted process, and the whole thing feels more like a mobile/browser game than a PC game. Perhaps the developers would have more success by launching this as an ad-supported game on mobile. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises. Edit: The developer advises that the controls can be customised, I've reviewed the product and determined this is true, it's just obtuse and unintuitive. I've amended the review. Regardless, the impetus of my review remains unchanged.
Would recommend playing the tutorials first. game is short and charming, really nice for something to pass the time. looks nice, plays nice, and it's free-- so nothing to complain about really.
