I got stuck on train bit. :((((. Instructions up to that point confusing
Astral Disorder is a frustrating mess that I really couldn't get behind. Many facets of this game make me question whether or not it was at all tested before release. For one, the vsync button doesn't work, so it was annoying dealing with that, as well as the other odd design choices like how finnicky the camera sensitivity is, the way the grappling hook was barely useful from what I played (which was not much, admittedly), and how the monster seemed to always know where I was more than I did. I quit playing while I was in the room where you have to turn on all the lights or something because I wasn't having fun with the inconsistent Grav Hammer (which feels and operates like a normal hammer) and frustrating movement and monster mechanics. You can play Astral Disorder if you want, it's free and doesn't take too much of your time I don't believe, but don't expect to have a ton of fun with it.

"Astral Disorder" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from SAU Game Studio in Arkansas. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students made a simple first person puzzle adventure game with a handful of little puzzles... like always with student projects, this is a tech demo more than a full game for gamers, there's not really enough content here to make you want to download it. Worse, again, like all student projects, this is riddled with bugs, lacks polish, and none of the broken aspects of the game will ever get fixed because the students got their grades and moved on. Now, why is that good for us PC gamers?? In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. Insultingly, the developer insists that you should play this with a console peasant children's toy gamepad instead of KB+M. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're designing games for. It's the responsibility of the developer to ensure the game runs well on the platform they're selling it on, with the primary peripherals that PC gamers use. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. This isn't a complete game for gamers, just a glorified homework assignment, and there's no profile benefits like a +1 count to your game collector badge, so I can't recommend adding it to your library. Finally, I write these reviews to try help people navigate the thousands of games on Steam so they don't waste time on low quality products. There's over 140,000 games on Steam... Steam Direct is allowing an influx of around 40-50 new games every day!. If you think I'm wrong about this one, go ahead and add it to your library, download it, install it, play it and see for yourself. Maybe you'll come to agree with me after wasting your time. Either way, consider writing your own reviews too. I'm just glad if my review helps give gamers enough info to make a better informed choice.

Although it is relative short game you will always have to be running to solve a puzzle or escaping the monster never a dull moment. I have yet to beat the expert difficult without cheesing the monster. However, I plan to get the record time in escaping through the station on expert difficult.
