Excellent. A real gem of a game. I loved it from start to finish. The mechanics are really fun (both in exploration and in combat) and I loved collecting all the gems and treasures. The characters are very lovable, NPCs included (some of whom have HILARIOUS names/titles, lol), and the story is more compelling than I expected. Charming art-style, amazing enemy design, and a wonderful soundtrack on top of all that. This is a real labour of love and passion, and it makes for a delightful time. I can't believe it's free!!
Absolutely loved this game! The gameplay systems are just complex enough to be engaging without becoming an overly-complicated mess. There is plenty of room to build your Zosma and his companion however you like, but things were balanced well enough that any build is viable. The story is engaging, and the characters are charming. As an older gamer, the vibes took me back to playing early Final Fantasy games, especially Mystic Quest. To top it all off, this thing is free! Kudos to Torch60, I plan on checking out the other titles.

Lovely game. Really enjoyed it.
Another Torch 60 game. Another recommendation from me. I haven’t played a single from that dev that was bad. Though I’m only going to focus on the gameplay for this review not cause the story is bad, it’s a nice little story about a treasure hunter who wants to makes his sister proud along with this cat he finds which you can name and I named it Tiddles after the family cat who passed away last year. Also you can name Zosma’s and the cat’s team name later in the story. I wanted to name to name it after Zosma’s sister since that seemed appropriate but I didn’t remember her name and named them Team Debra. And the art and music style hasn’t changed at all but why fix what isn’t broken. But onto the main review. The floors gave me a Spyro the Dragon vibe when you collect treasure for the purpose of collecting treasure, as well as solving little challenges like a treasure hunt or a math puzzles to find the main treasures. There not really essential to progression but they are fun to find and can give you some nice equipment if you get a high enough treasure rank. The only time I needed to use a guide was to check if the guy to fix the springboard was in chapter 3. Also there’s a series of bonus dungeons called the expanding void. A bit more classic with it’s random encounters and harder enemies that make you use those potions you’ve been saving. There pretty good but I have to ask: Why those the first one look like Hell with the red and eyeball? The red I get since the whole game as a rainbow theme going on from red to purple, but why the eyeballs? The next dungeon was sponsored by the letter h and the final one has a bathroom theme. It just seems weird. As for the combat, you only control Zosma while the cat is AI, so it’s mostly just Zosma against two monsters at a time. Thankfully you can perform multiple action in one turn like get a boost of SP to use a fire spell and maybe use a potion to heal myself. And since you get more AP for moves as you progress through the story, you can can really deal the damage later on. You can also customise your move list with Sigils, which mainly give you two moves: one physical, one magic. These include the starter two, a cleric with a shield and heal spell, an oracle that can charge you moves next turn, or a trio of elemental ones to exploit give and exploit that weakness. There are also Astra move which are like Super moves and these are kind of basic but super useful. Due to them being once per battle each and getting SP can be quick if you set up the correct moves, these were really useful for regular enemies. Not so much bosses as while the can stop them in several ways, they are only once per battle. There’s also your cat companion who you can set up to be a fighter, a mage, a support and give it food for temporary stat buff. But I mostly set him up as a healer as well as felling up his defence stats. For the simple reason a felt a dedicated healer was more useful to me. Sure it doesn’t fully heal me but it got me through just fine. In conclusion. This is another Tourch 60 has made another great RPG Maker game.
Party up with a cute companion in this enjoyable, free RPG. With a nice but somewhat straight-forward story, an enjoyable focus on exploration thanks to its treasure hunts, and the combo + class system keeping battles fresh, there's plenty of fun to be had in this ~14hour game. If you want to scratch that RPG itch with something a little different that still feels familiar, Astra Hunter Zosma is a great way to do it.
RPG Maker strikes again! "Astra Hunter Zosma" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. Although I think some of the assets might be bespoke because they look pretty bad. This is a particularly badly made RPG Maker kitbash, but at least it eschews the usual godawfully cringey fan-fiction about the developers imaginary anime girlfriend for a more traditional, if painfully generic RPG experience. You're an adventurer, you have to escape a tower by collecting stuff and having turn based battles. Rogue had more plot than this does. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Given that this free title won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? I think it's best to skip this download. While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher-quality alternatives on Steam.
This is easily one of my favourite RPGs of recent times, there's so much packed into this little powerhouse of a game! Outside of the main story, which is really well put together and got me all emotional a few times, there's additional bonus dungeons to explore to advance your skills further, there's in game trophies to seek out and one of the most adorable sidekicks ever. Honestly worth your time, this is a mini-delight that deserves attention!
Positively delightful
