I bounced off Assassin's Creed: Black Flag when I was new to gaming and hadn't played an Assassin's Creed game before because the controls felt awkward and janky, and all the various systems felt overwhelming. Five years later, after having played Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood, and 3, suddenly Black Flag feels smooth and comfortable to play. I think Black Flag just isn't the best introduction to the series. Assassin's Creed 2 works better as a tutorial. Anyway, the remake is totally unnecessary. The original still runs smoothly with no egregious QOL issues. Edit: oh yeah, if you approach this as a completionist you will ruin it for yourself. Focus on the main plot and dabble around on side activities only when it's fun. Pretty sure that goes for all Ubisoft games.
