Good controls.....the white whale is a bit annoying but over all, very satisfying!
Starý originál sice nemá nejnovější grafické pozlátko a má své mouchy dané dobou vzniku, ale hratelností a čistou zábavou novou verzi naprosto drtí. The original Black Flag clearly proves why modern remakes, led by the new Resynced, fail completely. I tried the remake and it was a massive chore – the moment combat kicked in and more gear was introduced, it became obvious how badly the core mechanics were ruined for the sake of modern trends. While the original lacks the flashy modern graphics and carries minor flaws of its era, its gameplay and pure fun completely blow the new version out of the water. The biggest contrast lies in the controls and combat flow. In the original game, running into a group of ten soldiers is pure joy: you keep full control using just a couple of keys, chaining counter-attacks, fluid executions, and slicing through enemies like a cinematic powerhouse. In the remake, combat is a clunky chore where you constantly roll around and have to press combinations of 5 to 8 keys just to pull off basic moves. Shooting suffered the exact same fate: here, you simply tap F for a quick shot or hold the right mouse button to aim and click left to fire. In the remake, you have to aim, select the weapon with a number key, and if you stop and aim again, you are forced to repeat that entire cumbersome sequence. Even parkour was downgraded: in the original, holding Shift handles running, climbing, and freerunning smoothly, whereas the remake forces you to hold Shift while simultaneously pressing Space. On top of that, the remake cut out numerous mechanics from the original because they couldn't even bother implementing them properly. It makes no sense how the remake has positive Steam reviews – people must have lost their minds to enjoy such needlessly convoluted and butchered controls. On modern PCs, there is only one technical hiccup to solve: the old engine does not understand hybrid CPU architecture and offloads threads onto efficiency cores, pegging a single thread to 100% while the rest sits idle. Restricting CPU affinity strictly to Performance cores eliminates all stutter instantly and makes the game run flawlessly. If you want an authentic pirate experience with zero bloat and fluid action instead of tedious finger gymnastics, play the original.
