pure nostalgia. Great story + open world features for its time too

I enjoyed Revelations. It was a nice way to wrap up Ezio’s story, even if it’s probably my least favourite game in the Ezio trilogy. The gameplay is still really fun though, especially the combat, which feels brutal and satisfying. My main issue is Ubisoft. Having to log into their launcher every single time I want to play is annoying as hell. On top of that, they broke the Animus World missions years ago, so nobody can even play them anymore, and they still haven’t fixed it. Still a good game overall and a solid ending to Ezio’s story.
Assassin's Creed Revelations is the epic conclusion to the stories of Ezio and Altair, and that is easily the strongest part of the game. The story connects everything from the previous games and gives both characters a proper ending. Constantinople is a great setting. The city is beautiful, the political situation adds some interesting story elements, and the atmosphere works really well. Ezio being 52 years old also took some getting used to, but in a good way. He is an older and much wiser Assassin, yet he is still moving around the city and fighting like that. His experience really shows in the way he talks and acts. The story starts with Desmond's mind being fragmented after the events of Brotherhood. While trying to return to reality, we follow Ezio's final journey, which eventually connects with Altair's final journey. The Masyaf keys allow Ezio to experience memories from Altair's life, and seeing how their stories connect through the Animus was really well done. The beginning of the story focuses more on Ezio arriving in Constantinople and getting involved with the Assassins there. Yusuf Tazim becomes an important friend and teaches Ezio new tricks, while Ezio helps build the Brotherhood in Constantinople. The hookblade is a great addition to the movement system and makes travelling around the city much faster and more fun. The middle of the game focuses more on the political conflict in Constantinople and Ezio's search for the keys. You meet a lot of memorable characters along the way, including Yusuf, Sofia, Suleiman, Piri Reis, Prince Ahmet and Manuel Palaiologos. Abbas also returns from the first game, which was a nice connection back to Altair's story. The Sofia missions were also great because they show a different side of Ezio. After losing Caterina at the end of Brotherhood, it was nice seeing him slowly find love again. Ezio has become incredibly wise by this point in his life, and I really enjoyed listening to his conversations and the way he approached situations. Altair's story was probably my favorite part emotionally but Altair’s final journey is also tragic. He continues living for the Assassin Brotherhood until his final breath, and his persistence is admirable. However, in his final moments, when he speaks with his son, Altair realizes that he made a mistake by dedicating his entire life to the Brotherhood and continuing for so long. He understands that he should have stopped earlier and allowed the next generation to continue without him. Ezio learns this lesson by experiencing Altair’s memories. After seeing everything Altair went through, Ezio realizes that he should not make the same mistake and become a second Altair. Because of his age and everything he has already done for the Brotherhood, he understands that it is time to stop living entirely for the Assassins. This leads perfectly into his decision to leave the Brotherhood behind and live a quiet life with Sofia. The ending is also great because of the reveal involving the Apple. Ezio realizes that the message is not really meant for him. He is essentially talking to Desmond through Ezio's memories, warning about a threat that could end the world. Ezio's wisdom in that moment is one of my favorite parts of his character. He understands that he is only one part of something much bigger. Combat is more of the same compared to Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. The counter system and tools are still fun, and the bombs give you some more options, but it does not really change the formula that much. The open world is beautiful, and Constantinople has a great atmosphere. Traversal is also faster thanks to the hookblade and the new rope systems. It makes moving around the city feel much better. The music is once again really good and fits the atmosphere perfectly. I just missed some of the iconic tracks from Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood. One thing that really hurt the polish for me is the PC version. Being limited to 60 FPS is annoying, and there are some strange issues with the menus. I also had to turn off my internet connection to properly go through Desmond's memories, which is a really weird problem to still have. Ratings Story: 9 Combat: 7 Graphics: 8 Characters: 8 World and Immersion: 8 Music and Sound: 7 Polish: 6 Final thoughts Assassin's Creed Revelations is an amazing conclusion to both Ezio and Altair's stories. The beginning, middle and ending all work together to close the stories of two of the most important Assassins in the series. Seeing Altair's final years and how his story influences Ezio's final decision was especially powerful. The game itself is not perfect. The combat is mostly the same, the music does not quite reach the highs of AC2 and Brotherhood, and the PC version has some annoying technical issues. But the story, characters, Constantinople and especially the connection between Ezio and Altair make this a very memorable Assassin's Creed game. An 8 out of 10 feels right for me. It is not necessarily the best game in the trilogy, but as a conclusion to Ezio and Altair's stories, it does exactly what it needed to do.
