An Absolute Masterpiece – 100% Recommended
I initially picked up this game solely because it carried the Assassin's Creed name. Having played Brotherhood during my teens, I went into this expecting the classic stealth-heavy formula, but otherwise, I was completely blind to what this era of the franchise had to offer. What I found is a 100% solid game that I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who wants to experience breathtaking scenery, excellent historical lore, and raw, visceral combat.
* Kassandra as the Lead
Choosing to play as Kassandra was easily one of the best decisions I made. She is an incredibly strong, charismatic, and beautifully written protagonist. Her wit, voice acting, and general personality made me care deeply about her journey from a simple mercenary to a legendary hero. She carries the story perfectly.
* The World and Lore
The integration of Ancient Greek mythology and the adaptation of Homer's Odyssey concepts are brilliant. Everything feels as perfectly tailored as a bespoke suit. The gameplay, deep characterisation, and subtle foreshadowing are masterfully executed. Funnily enough, halfway through my playthrough, the movie adaptation of The Odyssey released. Having the lore fresh in my mind from this game made watching it an incredibly immersive, deeply understandable experience.
Combat & Naval Gameplay
* The Combat:
The land combat is phenomenal. Moving away from traditional stealth into raw, direct fights felt great. The weapon variety and specialized abilities—like the legendary Sparta Kick—make every encounter feel chaotic and rewarding.
* Naval Warfare:
A massive standout is the ship gameplay. Sailing across the vast Aegean Sea, customizing your ship, upgrading your crew, and engaging in intense naval battles is incredibly addictive. Ramming directly into an enemy vessel or boarding them for deck-to-deck combat never gets old.
* An Unconventional AC Game
To be fair to veteran fans, it is hard to call this a traditional Assassin's Creed game because the classic stealth-first loop takes a backseat. However, if this is someone's very first entry into the franchise, it completely changes the perspective. Experiencing the historical roots of where this world started gives you the perfect head start and motivation to explore the rest of the series.
* Minor Gripes
While the game is an incredible journey, it isn't entirely perfect. I did encounter a very few notable bugs during my playtime, though thankfully none of them ruined the experience or broke the immersion.
* Conclusion
Totally worth the time and money. It is a must-try, and I absolutely recommend it. I genuinely hope Ubisoft gives us a remastered version of this masterpiece in the near or distant future.
