About
Ascent DX is a tiny metroidvania brought to life in glorious 64 x 64 pixel art and soothing chiptune music. Crashed on an unknown planet you have to explore lush jungles, lifeless deserts, and luminescent caves in search of anything that can help you understand what has happened to the planet and how to get off it.
While the game is a bigger version of the original Ascent, with almost twice as many locations to explore, it is still quite a short game. With the same celebrated gameplay and atmosphere, the DX versions also brings more items to find, more platforming puzzles, and more lore to uncover.
A world brought to life by tiny but expressive pixel art
Explore the planet's many biomes in your own pace and direction
Find new powers and abilities that help you on your way
Uncover the fate of the planet as well as your own
Different endings based on how much was discovered
Design, code, & pixel art: Johan Peitz

My eyes do hurt a little now but it was fun
It's short, but it's free and for its length I enjoyable, The Pico-8 look may turn some away but it's only that way in appearance and not in function. No jank, it controls just fine. For lovers of the Metroidvania genre only or a nice gateway Metroidvania to give to a gamer who wants to get into the genre and they come with a bit of a background with platformers. (It will be a huge plus if they prefer games with some lore but also open to the ambiguous and open ended nature of thought provoking sci-fi) I do wish the story was longer but what we have here story wise is completely subjective since what we got may be exactly what the developer intended and I've grown to accept and respect that over the years.

Good
Short. Fantastic.
The game design is quite good, it even has a mini-map. I give it 9 points. The drawback is that the down dash and jump effects are completely opposite, yet they are bound to a single key, which brings unnecessary challenges. I suggest not setting it this way next time.
Gráficos hiper-simples, mas jogabilidade no ponto. Rápido para terminar, 30 min.
8/10
Decent pixel-Metroidvania game with 2 really weird endings. If you got a hour to spare for, then try out this game: it's absolutely free and needs only 13 mb disc space!
Only I wish the key bindings could be customized.
