Story, Mission & Quest Design
articy:draft makes the creation of interactive, branching content easy. It’s perfect for your narrative structure design. Each node in your story or mission flowchart can contain an inner flowchart. You can start with a top-level chapter-like structure and break it down into further and further until reaching single lines of dialogue. This nested approach ensures clean and organized flowcharts.
Create variables, conditions and instructions to control the flow your game and make your player's choices count.
Use the simulation mode to go through your story from a player's perspective and test your flow logic before you export it.
Unity and Unreal Integrations
Boost your iteration process. The comprehensive engine plugins get your content ready to use with Unity or Unreal with just a few clicks.
Game Object Database
articy:draft includes a powerful game object database with a flexible template system. Build everything, from characters, items, spells to weapons and skills. Templates are editable and very iteration-friendly due to their modular setup. Objects inherit the characteristics of their template making it easy to modify or expand them later.
Use And Create Plugins
Automate tasks and customize workflows by using custom plugins. The Macro Devkit enables you to develop your own plugins fast and easy.
Location Planning
With the build-in location editor, a vector-based 2D drawing tool, you can easily plan your game world and single levels. This editor is an iteration-friendly sketching tool for maps and scenarios. You can place story events, spawn points and trigger zones on the map for planning purposes. For some game genres, the location editor can even produce the actual game output. For example 2D layer-based backgrounds for point’n’click adventures or hidden object games.

Reviews
Does what it says on the tin. it's nice for being able to tie things togethor on long plots, but I wish it was a bit easier to dive deeper into convo chains, and that file depth was a little easier to work with.

At the time of writing this, I have 351 hours in articy:draft 1/2, and I've been using the software since the original release. Writing an early Positive review to bump up the score for a much-loved software, and I'll return after digging in more to add on. So far, I'm glad I purchased the upgrade, as the last perpetual license for this company (sad panda). One of my only gripes about the original software was the lack of syncing across devices, as I use a laptop and development PC with a:d. The software otherwise looks and feels the same, which is fine by me, but I don't do anything too advanced. I've ran a 10+ year Pathfinder campaign with a:d, and I use it for myriad video game, board game, and TTRPG designs. It has been exactly the tool for the job across all of these projects, and really allows me to flesh out my ideas in an extremely non-linear fashion across all areas. I struggle to build a project in a straight path and, often, disparate ideas come to me as I'm working. A:d allows for this sort of design, and I can easily hop from adding characters to a scene in a narrative flow, to building out the template for a specialized NPC design, to adding visual and audio assets, and back to jotting in possible plot hooks based on the original location, without interrupting my work or switching into another program. articy:draft as a whole has a bit of a learning curve and, beyond the YouTube videos on their site, you'll find few resources; this is my main gripe with the program, though articy seems to have perhaps leaned into the learning more with new videos on their site, so I'm hoping I've only yet to discover more education materials. If you're on the fence, go to HumbleBundle and grab it on sale; it's well worth the price, and very likely will be removed for perpetual use soon (hopefully, only new purchases. Please don't do us dirty, articy)
Needs a lot of work with formatting but they have dropped it for their new articy draft X with a subscription... Unity and unreal importer are out of date as well now on 3 version. I just use use it for renpy or godot so I have custom exporter anyways. Still I love it but for most people the free version on their site should do the trick if you are looking for basic dialogue flow. I would still pick it up on a sale.
A surprisingly robust game planning tool that made my life a lot easier.
Articy hits the sweet spot for indie game developers with its perpetual license - buy once, and it's yours forever. No subscription hassles, just pure value!
Great way to apply some soft structure to your wild ideas. I don't use it in the traditional way. My use is aimed at getting a short novel published but it has been a big help. I have done some development so I'm sure I'm not using it to full capacity but I don't really care TBPH.
Very useful for mass-editing entities (objects) in an RPG. Not very useful for the narrative aspects which are its most marketed function.
A very useful tool for Game Designer
