I'll start off by saying - I fully understand where some of the negative comments have come from, especially around the campaign and its seemingly abrupt end. However, despite this, do I think this game is worth it? Absolutely. The campaign itself is essentially a long winded tutorial on the ins and outs of the game before it lets you go free reign. Post campaign, any aditional content such as DLC (Currently prophecies of ash) is unlocked for you to access (Cosmetic DLC is accessible the whole time) by pausing the game and going into the "game setup" option. The game itself is set-up in a qauzi-roguelite way - designed for multiple playthroughs. This is in regards to the in-game "Accolades" and "Hall of Fame" System. Accolades are essentially achievements you gain through play, and the "hall of fame" is where you spend the achievement points on things like costmetics, extra ornaments - or more importantly - Bonus starting resources, Permanently unlocked research and LEGENDARY specialists you can start the game with on the subsequent playthroughs. In terms of gameplay, it plays like most other Anno titles with - in my oppinion - the best of all the previous titles I've played (2070, 1800). The graphics are beautiful, the towns and cities all look so alive with little pedestrians and carts going around the roads and about their days. The only places, so far, I've felt the game has fallen the shortest is the optimization of the game (im not on the highest end PC to be fair, but its still not underpowered), the seemingly inconsistent diplomacy likes/dislikes with other govenors, and a lack of threats that starts specifically in Albion and can spread to Latium. (Historically this makes no sense, but gameplay wise would be fun.)
This is the first anno game that I have to give a thumb down. It is very buggy almost one year after release, and the game looks good, but lacks charm of the previous anno games. It is sad to to see the fall of a franchise.
I was a big fan of Anno 1800, which is an excellent city-builder. Because of that, I decided to support Anno 117 by buying the Early Access + 1-Year DLC package. Big mistake. The biggest issue is the 1-Year DLC. I expected all the content promised for the first year to be included, but some items cannot be claimed and require extra payment. This feels like a scam and left a really bad taste. On top of that, the game experience itself is extremely frustrating. The story suddenly ends with almost no warning, and after that there is no clear way to progress. I got completely stuck with nowhere to go. After struggling for a while, I ended up uninstalling the game. Early Access is supposed to be about supporting development and getting a playable version, but this feels unfinished and poorly planned. I’ve now learned my lesson: no more Early Access purchases for me (goodbye Battlefield and similar titles too). They always drop big discounts after the full release anyway, so there’s zero point in paying full price early. If you loved Anno 1800 like I did, I recommend waiting for the full release and proper reviews before buying this one.
Its a fun game but Ubisoft connect is the worst and ruins it. I can't even play it at all sometimes cause I just gett an error that tells me to try again later and even when I get it to work sometimes it just crashes randomly.
Trying to connect to Ubisoft is like trying to pull your own teeth. Very painful, very sporadic, always frustrating. Typical 20-30% success rate...
"This product cannot be activated right now, please try again later". I bought this game Ubisoft, thx...
Its just a lackluster of a game. Does not compare to the other Anno's at all (wtf was that campaign?).
Why do I have to type a review on a game a dislike or compare to its predecessor? I saw the would you recommend this game, No, now I have to type? YOU! type.
