This is the first anno game that I have to give a thumb down. It is very buggy almost one year after release, and the game looks good, but lacks charm of the previous anno games. It is sad to to see the fall of a franchise.
I was a big fan of Anno 1800, which is an excellent city-builder. Because of that, I decided to support Anno 117 by buying the Early Access + 1-Year DLC package. Big mistake. The biggest issue is the 1-Year DLC. I expected all the content promised for the first year to be included, but some items cannot be claimed and require extra payment. This feels like a scam and left a really bad taste. On top of that, the game experience itself is extremely frustrating. The story suddenly ends with almost no warning, and after that there is no clear way to progress. I got completely stuck with nowhere to go. After struggling for a while, I ended up uninstalling the game. Early Access is supposed to be about supporting development and getting a playable version, but this feels unfinished and poorly planned. I’ve now learned my lesson: no more Early Access purchases for me (goodbye Battlefield and similar titles too). They always drop big discounts after the full release anyway, so there’s zero point in paying full price early. If you loved Anno 1800 like I did, I recommend waiting for the full release and proper reviews before buying this one.
Its just a lackluster of a game. Does not compare to the other Anno's at all (wtf was that campaign?).
Its a fun game but Ubisoft connect is the worst and ruins it. I can't even play it at all sometimes cause I just gett an error that tells me to try again later and even when I get it to work sometimes it just crashes randomly.
Trying to connect to Ubisoft is like trying to pull your own teeth. Very painful, very sporadic, always frustrating. Typical 20-30% success rate...
The user interface is a step back compared to Anno 1800, and the campaign is short and ends abruptly. Several quality of life features from Anno 1800 are missing. One feature I especially miss is a clear port import and export history that makes it easy to see whether the port is making or losing money. Naval combat feels shallow and unengaging, and building a capable fleet requires far too much time and effort. The game never really engaged me. I kept playing, hoping it would click, but it never did. Edit: Steam incorrectly shows that I've only played a little over 2 hours. In reality, I've played for more than 25 hours.
a game made for DLCs, feels very shallow.
