To me this game is a good example of poor game design due to lack of restraint. Within a round you and all other players get so many upgrades that given the short time you have, you can't meaningfully interact with what other players are doing. I would say this game is practically a single player game where you roll for upgrades, pick some that seem good for your character, and during combat phase measure how relatively lucky you were. A game with meaningful interaction between players would have you make choices depending on what has happened to other players. This requires for you to be able to observe, digest and respond. I think Alpha League HD is more of a lottery simulation with fancy character models.
