About
Iota is beginning to lose their sense of who they are. Like the other members of their computer system, they have been locked away by the Corruption, a virus that spreads through subsystems, isolates the intelligent programs that operate them, and slowly erodes their memories. Though it has been years now since the system transmitted an urgent request to the Company for assistance, Iota persists in keeping an access port open, hoping in spite of all probability that help will eventually arrive.

Alpha and Iota is a puzzle platformer about repairing a damaged computer system inhabited by sentient agents, and controlled by a mysterious organization known as the Company. You operate a repair core, which can navigate the system by ejecting between a variety of different hosts, each with their own dynamics and abilities. Some hosts are fixed in place, while others jump, slide, climb walls, or follow rails. To progress, it is often necessary to utilize several hosts in combination, taking advantage of each of their unique qualities and the rich interactions between them.
Perhaps the most subtle yet versatile tool at your disposal is the ability to toggle a host to autopilot, locking in all current inputs to that host so that it will continue its present behavior, even if you eject away. In the hands of a seasoned technician, the repair core is an elegant tool, dancing fluidly between hosts to traverse damaged subsystems while gracefully evading security measures. Beginners tend to benefit from a more methodical approach to subsystem repair, first devising a strategy, and then carefully executing each step in sequence.
A majority of challenges are designed to allow multiple solutions. Players are rewarded for thinking outside the box, learning the quirks and interactions of each host type, and combining mechanics in creative ways. When the apparent solution to a puzzle seems mechanically difficult, there is often an alternative approach that dramatically reduces the need for precise inputs.

If one spends enough time browsing through the various lesser known games released on Steam or elsewhere daily they will find good or even very good games from time to time but it is a rare and joyful day when they stumble upon a truly great one; Alpha and Iota is one of those rare true hidden gems. Playing as a spark that jumps between various objects it possesses and can only exist outside of one for a few moments before being snapped back into the last one occupied (if not making it to a new one first) in a way vaguely reminiscent of Space Station Silicon Valley, in practice it varies between feeling more like a puzzle or a precision platformer but ultimately is very much its own thing. Its most creative choice is the addition of an autopilot system where an object continuously performs the actions it was doing when triggered, it feels like most of the game's most creative set pieces are built around it. My personal rule of thumb is that one of the surest signs of a game's quality is when it is clear that the developer is intimately familiar with all the various aspects of its central mechanics, and that is revealed to be true at several points during Alpha and Iota up to and including a post-game bit where it is shown that there was a tiny property one almost certainly never actually noticed or was required, here's a few bonus bits to take advantage of it. The game is full of this commitment to giving you just a bit more of something if you want. The main story path is full of creative levels one can make their way through in a relatively linear way if they choose, but are also full of optional collectibles that exist mainly to challenge you to find more creative ways to take advantage of the various objects in play. If you prefer things more puzzley there is basically a whole stage based puzzle platformer extra mode in there, if you prefer things more challenging in terms of reflexes or just straight difficulty if you dig a bit deeper you'll find whole extra bits for that as well. There are a few smaller nitpicks I could level against the game (a few places that have these extra bits make you have to do a bit more work than is ideal to get back to them each time) but they are very small and do not detract from the overall success that it is. Every so often I find a game where it legit bothers me that it seemingly did not find that larger, heck simply less small audience and I feel compelled to tell others about it whenever the opportunity presents itself. I already know Alpha and Iota will be that game for me for the foreseeable future. Highly recommended, a true hidden gem, go try it please!
Alpha and Iota is the best puzzle game I have ever played. Full stop. With a single-dev game you get the measure of the person behind it, and this creator clearly knows their stuff. Every level is chock-full of interesting puzzles to solve, so many that it might be overwhelming if not for the conduit mechanic, which keeps you moving in the right direction. You've never played a puzzle game quite like this; the ejection and autopilot mechanics feel strange at first, but once you become used to them they make for a platforming and puzzle experience unlike any other. The assist features are helpful for a slow-reflex-having lady like myself, and without them it poses a challenge that should be satisfying to the most seasoned gamer. The characters are great, Iota in particular is such a lovely little guide to the System, and it is so rewarding to see the world change in response to your progress. I also love the music; the developer composed all the pieces, and the music lends itself brilliantly to the strange, otherworldly nature of the System. In short, I loved this game. 10/10.
16 reviews at the time of writing this..........16....... It's crazy to me that a game of this quality, care and passion remains so unknown to the majority of players. Controls like a dream on Deck. Good writing. Fun mechanics. Super low price. Two very big thumbs up from me.
This is a wonderful puzzle platformer. Currently I've reached the credits and am starting to dig into the (seemingly very substantial) post-game, but I can't imagine it won't end up as one of my favorites in the genre. The mechanics are original and thoroughly explored with cleverly and subtly designed puzzles, and the way the action ramps up at the climax satisfied my twitchy gamer side. Shout out to the soundtrack, a great accompaniment to puzzling.
A surprisingly well made Puzzle Platformer with deep mechanics and a good story to boot! -I always felt like doing just one more puzzle / zone / checkpoint, I didn't want to stop once I was in the flow -New mechanics keeping Puzzles fresh even after the Main Story -The amount of nuance and complexity in even the simplest mechanic is mind blowing -Surprising amount of characters with distinct personalities. -Really well executed Story. Overall the amount of Playtime and enjoyment I got at this price point is an absolute steal.
Real gem and worth every penny. I tested this game onstream and I liked it very much. I will finish it for sure and for now i enjoyed every minute with it.
For how the game looks, Alpha and Iota made my computer lag like crazy. I have 13th gen Intel Core i7 and an Nvidia Geforce 4060 and usually don't have problems but this is bothering me a lot. I tried to lower graphics settings but it didn't do much. I don't not enjoy it but i also didnt fully enjoy it because the lag was too much for me. Sidenote: At the time of writing the beginning of this message i was streaming and my encoding was overloaded a lot but i close out of my pngtuber and it worked fine. 7/10
