All is Fair in Dust and Air

All is Fair in Dust and Air is a visual novel based on the Guns of Icarus Online game. I'll start with the good stuff. The artwork is great – lovely scenes and good character design as well. There are lots of references to GoIO and it is nice to feel immersed while reading it. But that's where I have to get to the negatives. The game (despite it's impressive word count) doesn't feel like a complete experience, even if you explore the entire dialogue tree. The actual length isn't even the issue as such. Rather the issue I have is that the story doesn't really get very far by the time you are entirely through it. The impressive word count is largely padding and exposition and by the time you reach the end of it, you've only really experienced plot-wise what feels like an opening act. You met some characters, but the story has no resolution, no tying up of any ends. From what I understand, the plan is to have the 6 DLCs – one for each faction with the related story. That's all fine, but the base game neutral arc isn't a complete story at all. And this lack of resolution is why I cannot recommend getting it in the current form. If you really enjoy GoIO, you will probably find some enjoyment here, but as an actual story, the plot is just too unresolved for my liking. Don't get me wrong, I DID enjoy the story such as it is, and I hoped/wished that I would be able to update this review one day to reccomend the game, but we haven't reached that day yet, and development seems to have stalled out.

I wish this was good. The reviews led me astray. This game has become a meme in the GOI community because it's so bad.

All is Fair in Dust and Air is in my opinion a must buy for any fans of graphic novels/choose your own adventure style games. I have a plethora of extremely fond memories regarding this style and it being set in the Guns of Icarus world which is already an incredibly unique setting definitely gives this title a step ahead of the rest. All in all I was pleasantly surprised with this product and upon booting up the game for the first time I was met with a beautiful soundtrack and enchanting art style. Other than that the dev team has to be one of the most passionate and friendly bunch I have ever seen with updates and content being added over time unlike some of the more sketchy early access titles. What else can I say? Get this game!!!

Love this Game!! Even though it's only in early access, It is a great Visual Novel, love it so far! It's set in a steam punky type world which I really liked and have not seen other VN's do. The art and music are fantastic! And the Story is great, can't wait for them to finish it. Overall if you like Steam punk/VN's you should buy this game!!

I was put for 90 minutes in another world. Loved it. Now I'm back at this cold, pandemic world... ... i want to go back, I need more.

I giggled when I played this visual novel, it reminds me somebody I know for some reasons lol and it also reminds me of Harvest Moon, my childhood game. The game atmosphere makes me forget about the reality world for a while, I wish I could ride on William's airship!

Where are comments???!!!! But anyways I enjoyed the story a lot just wish I would have known the story was incomplete

Very good story. Art is amazing.

I don't know how others could breeze through this. Only got through part of a route so far and it was a bad end...which was rather dark. Really didn't expect it, there was no warning or death flags! Props to the author for the shock factor alone. This story is only the initial story of a bigger saga and it's clear as you go that there is a lot more to come in the future. More surprised this came from a small team too. I've actually checked out a few of their blogs and they really try to keep people up to date. More than a lot of bigger devs ever do. Overall, I'm enjoying the story despite hitting a bad ending. There is a richness to the world that makes me hope they really do come through with more in the future. I like the characters and the potential in each one of them. It isn't like other visual novels I've seen, nor is it a pure dating sim. It isn't geared for a younger age group either, however, it also doesn't try to go too adult or use a lot of repetitive cliches. Will continue plugging away at this in my spare time. Looking forward to seeing all the routes in this and then where these devs take it in the future!
