Game is good. Though there are some problems. Really like how they handle the IP. Feels good and small squad stuff in maps you revisit is pretty neato with the plot pressure to try to progress and whatnot. Really feels like a good Alien game and story. There are some things that are kind of bad. Sudden spike in difficulty missions 6-8. I understand I am playing on hard but it still feels bad. You really have to grind the game and do things in one deployment or so. And everything will just be repeat spawning on you and endless patrols of aliens. You have kind of cheese it which also does not feel good. AI has a habit of being on top of you all the time and it knows when you search or activate abilities so it knows to attack, run, or avoid you until the animation or cooldown which is cheap. Bugs are quite bad in this game. Many times the game did not register an objective and it makes you waste a deployment for certain things to trigger. One example is one of the harder late game maps and it was frustrating to see the cutscene at the end play but not have the actual mission complete and I had to rekill a certain boss side quest for that mission. I've also had a save game on one of the ending missions crap out on me and therefore I am currently replaying it out of a bit of frustration. If the game were bug free with a smoother progression it'd be an easy 8-9/10. With all those frustrations I'd say it's a 7-8/10. Almost there.
Even though the game is really fun and interesting, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ what kind of crappy optimization that is??? My PC specs are way higher than recommended, and still I'm experiencing huge FPS drops from time to time, AND constant audio stuttering through the whole mission and cutscenes making my ears bleed. Switching to lowest settings doesn't help a bit. The game seems abandoned... One of the worst optimizations I ever experienced.
Love the game, but one detail left me hanging. Jonas Harper described Cassandra as having the same blue eyes as his, yet when I finally saw her, I was perplexed. She looks nothing like he described, instead she has dark skin and brown eyes. Why the discrepancy?
Aliens: Dark Descent has atmosphere, that dirty industrial sci-fi look, and I love how the squad moves as one unit while you can still give individual orders. It’s a pretty cool system. Then the bugs started. And no, not the acid-spitting kind. After the first mission, I got a UI bug where I couldn’t press “Next Day.” I replayed the mission two times and wasted about two hours before finally downloading a save from the internet just to skip the prologue. That was my first warning sign. From there, the technical issues kept stacking up: - An elevator that suddenly forgot how floors work. - A mission where the main objective straight-up vanished. - A terminal that completely gave up on being interactive. At that point, the Xenomorphs weren’t even my biggest concern. Sometimes replaying an hour-long mission fixes the problem, but that is NOT the way this should work. I don't have the time to keep rolling the dice and hoping the game decides to function this time around. At some point, I was more afraid of losing an hour of progress than losing a squad member. And then there are the unskippable dialogue sequences. This is a tactical game. Why does the game constantly take control away from me just to freeze the camera while characters talk? I understand the idea of creating a cinematic experience, but there’s barely anything cinematic happening. I’m not getting elaborate scenery shots, detailed facial performances, dramatic camera work, or anything that really needs my full attention. I’m basically staring at a paused screen while two people have a conversation. So why not just let the dialogue play in the background while I continue controlling my squad? I could move my Marines, check the map, position everyone, simply prepare for the next fight while listening to the conversation. That would actually fit the tactical nature of the game. And when missions are already long, those forced interruptions just make everything feel slower than it needs to be. For me, the technical issues happened often enough that they outweighed the things I enjoyed. If you’re a big Alien fan and love tactical squad games, there’s a lot here to enjoy, but only if you’re prepared to tolerate the bugs.
I have never played any strategy games before this one. I had seen revies on YouTube before I bought it and got exited, and it still blew me away even with the high expectations.
Багованый кусок кода. 10я миссия непроходима из за бага которому как минимум 2 года. 2 раза перепроходил и оба багуются. 2 часа из жизни выкинь. Печально... Про мелкие баги молчу, кое как дошел же до 10 миссии.
The Game prides itself on it being difficult. What it fails to mention is that the difficulty is based on largely unfavorable RNG and unbalanced enemy encounters. Any attempts at stealth just lack the cover you need to succesfully pull it off. And what mechanic did the game decide to add ontop of that? not 1, but 2 deadlines to pressure you into rushing things.
I really wanted to like this game but it's the most frustrating and aggravating game I have played. It is riddled with software bugs and glitches. When the game does work, it's still most frustrating and aggravating game to play because you're dealing with stress and resource management. All your marines have some negative trait that makes everything worse then you get stress trauma debuffs which makes it even more worse, even though there is a way to deal with stress it requires 1 tool, basically one room to turn into a shelter by welding a door shut. But doesn't require any tools to break a weld. That doesn't make any sense. I don't think welding should take a tool if breaking a weld doesn't require one. Sentries that get damage require a tool to repair, hacking a door requires a tool, a marine's drone that gets downed requires a tool to repair. The game has this overuse need for tools, and it's excessive and detracts from the game's progression. Marines get stressed out too easily, and if you let it go on too long it starts eating ammo and makes marines perform poorly. The "Hunted" mechanic seems to be broken, when I'm no longer detected but they still come after my squad. If you held off an onslaught, it's not really over and they still keep coming. Sometimes marines don't engage while moving, that's very annoying. The game requires stealth, but then makes it impossible by putting objective items in direct line of sight of hibernating enemies, so you get detected no matter what, You can't stealth it and if you blast them to hell get ready to fight a horde. You waste precious deployment days waiting for your marines to heal and dealing with their trauma. Which is going get you killed in the end, because I stopped in chapter 5 where you got go get a power core from terraforming facility and only had 15 days left before they nuke the planet. I finally gave up when the game glitched out and my squad was no longer able move past door thresholds, literally held captive on the catwalks. The alien units seem imbalanced, I can kill a queen, crusher no problem, but the warrior and drones take a full squad two shotgun blast, a nade and suppressing fire to kill? But the Predatorian on the other hand, a total tank, need three sentries, the arc and the squad spamming nades to kill the bastard. Even the weapons you buy, they don't seem better, pulse rifle and heavy rifle put out the same damage but one has a larger magazine and 0.1 chance increase of dismemberment? The plasma rifle which has increased damage and even a larger magazine I can't buy until I max level a marine? What fun is that? Gotta grind it! Marine class upgrades, gotta grind that too, if you want a marine to have a drone it's going to cost ya, because the first upgrade is just the drone, it's a scouting drone, second one gives it the ability to weld, the third gives it a gun. But you're going to waste three class upgrades to get the battle drone. There's the recon class, you can get the class, but you gotta buy the sniper rifle, or the techker class, but you still need 1 tool to hack a door? sigh. it could be fun, but they made it not fun and very aggravating, and super frustrating to play. I don't even want to finish the game, that's how off putting it is.
Good game better then that other one (Aliens Fireteam Elite) feels more like a Alien game and the story is much better.
