Alien: Isolation

just the best horror game ever lmao. played since second grade and its never lost its charm

I don’t normally play survival games, and this was the first proper one I have played, and I recommend it to anyone looking to get into the genre, as Alien Isolation is a great entry point for anyone looking to do just that. It gives you the false sense with the weapons it provides you that you will be able to just play it like any other shooter, but very quickly you realise that it’s almost very ‘realistic’ the way your guns are ineffective in most encounters with the Xenomorph. Always rushing back and forth between save points to not lose the progress you’ve accumulated so far, and it gets sweaty as you hear the rattling in the vents and prepare yourself to expect another encounter to occur from whichever direction! I do wish they had some proper cutscenes in the game, as it felt like they really cheaped out on that element of the game as it lacked any proper cutscenes and they were very minimal and I kept waiting to see one, although the level/mission designs allowed me to not be let down completely and as someone who enjoyed the movies, it really did hit home seeing a lot of familiar scenarios and adaptions directly imported into the game. I initially played through the first half of the game using Mac OS, then the second half I switched over to Bazzite/SteamOS for the remainder of the game till the end on the same system as it’s a dual boot, and the load times between levels and loading screens were very long for some reason on Mac OS even though it ran, with the occasional crash but ran flawlessly without a hiccup on SteamOS. Overall it’s a 7.5 out of 10 from me, and had there been proper cutscenes it most likely would have scored higher for me!

This is exactly what Alien 3 / Prometheus should have been. Absolute peak stealth scifi. I woudn´t neccesarily call it survival horror though. Also the xenomorph AI was on another level compared to Joes and humans. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.
