With the announcement of a second Alien: Isolation game, this felt like the perfect time to dive back in and finally review the first one. It should come as no surprise that Alien: Isolation performs incredibly well on the Steam Deck. It’s an older title, so feel free to crank up the settings. Even today, the game still looks incredible. They absolutely nailed the atmosphere, but the sound design might be even better. If you’re not playing with good headphones or a solid set of speakers, you’re only getting half the experience. I found myself relying on sound direction more than the motion detector the game gives you. Now for the biggest talking point: the alien AI. Listen, buddy, when I say these were the most tense 24.4 hours I’ve ever spent gaming, I mean it. By the 18-hour mark, I was begging for the game to end because of how tense the alien made every situation. If I was careful enough, I could sometimes crouch through an entire level without the alien ever showing up. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t appear, though. Oh, it definitely could. Other times, the alien seemed to know exactly where I was going. Even when I was being incredibly quiet, it felt like it had a general awareness of my location. That could feel a little unfair, but it also meant I never felt completely safe. If you love the Alien franchise, appreciate great audio, and enjoy the feeling of constantly being hunted, just play it. You might be begging for it to end like I was, but you’ll definitely have fun getting there.
The peak of survival horror
This game must be extremely overrated. The "advanced AI" spawns behind me, in front of me in a long tunnel where no hiding spots are, and refuses to leave a puppy guard area around your character. The objectives are hard to find, blue prints, map terminals and other important items are 100% missable. The game is not even scary, nothing remotely as scary as Outlast 2, which has been the most disturbing and scary game I've played. The only thing going for this game is its atmosphere which is basically just Warhammer Darktide. Absolutely overrated game that I had to mod to make work in 4k resolution. Which reminds me, mouse and keyboard controls don't work with the radial menu. So you must use a controller.
Mechanically sound, satisfying haptic sound design, game looks as great as it plays. Has more than just the alien, and gameplay consists of diverse tactical loops that keeps gameplay feel fresh and interesting.

Amazing game, got me scared a few times
This game took me 84 hours to beat simply due to the fact that it took me 5 attempts at this game before I cared enough to come back and beat it once and for all. That said, I'm one of the biggest alien franchise nerds I know, I DO still love this game. However, the AI system and game save features (or lack there of) make this game INSANELY frustrating at numerous points where only in 2026 did I finally play it all the way through. I AM looking forward to the announced sequel, but I REALLY hope they turn around and give this game a next-gen rehaul AND overhaul to a few systems to make a "definitive" edition that will also include all the DLC as one package. This game is scary and one of the biggest gaming bullies I've ever beaten. I think one of the greatest supporting details to back up my stance on all this is that (per steam achievements) ONLY 20% OF OWNERS OF THIS GAME HAVE BEATEN IN ON ANY DIFFICULTY. Imagine that out of 10 people only 2 had the patience to play it through.
Game even after many years later from watching someone else play it... TOP TIER!!!
very challanging even on easy, fun and great images like the alien. very well done for a older game.
