played on normal difficulty: - Alien AI is great, created situation that required some quick thinking or pre-planed so you dont die stupidly - Atmosphere and esthetic of the map is good - Items and resources aren't hard to find - puzzle and obj aren't complex but still fun and scary for most of the gameplay because of the alien - enemy like human with gun and robot are meh
I’m a fan of the franchise, but I was skeptical going into this considering not all movie-to-game adaptations are all that good. That being said, this game is terrifyingly amazing. The atmosphere, lighting, smaller environmental details, and thoughtful music choices completely sucked me into the world. All I could think about was wanting to escape from this nightmare. The Alien AI is mind-blowing to me. Early on, I was extremely scared and kept pigeonholing myself into lockers or hiding under tables, too afraid to move. The Alien caught on and started hovering around these areas. It was slowly closing in, and eventually got me a few times. This forced me to rethink my strategy and maybe gain a bit of courage. I was frustrated at times because of this, but I don’t think I’d enjoy this game nearly as much if the Alien were predictable in any sense. A prey must learn to adapt in order to avoid being killed by the predator. The fact that the Alien can learn from your behavior made every encounter feel tense, because I couldn’t simply rely on the same hiding spot or strategy every time. The variety in this game is vast, from the craftables and tools to the different types of missions and ways we traverse through the game. Regarding the missions specifically, I really appreciate the variety. Some were more puzzle-heavy, some were action-heavy, and others felt like full-on cutscenes with great backstory and exposition. At times, it genuinely felt like I was in a movie. My only real critique is that, with this variety, some missions felt imbalanced. Some were way too long and tedious, while others felt too short. It didn’t completely ruin my enjoyment, but for the second game, I hope they refine the mission balancing and find that sweet spot between the high-stakes, stressful segments and the more tedious puzzle and navigation sections. Overall, this is a really well-made game that pays close attention to detail. It honors the source material while also building upon it and making its own mark within the universe. It’s one of those games where the little details, atmosphere, and unpredictability come together to make you feel like you’re actually trying to survive rather than simply playing a horror game.
9/10
Played it around a decade ago but never finished it, which makes a lot of sense now. This game is truly horrifying, just the thought of opening the game filled me with dread (in the best way possible). It still looks great after a decade, sound design actively made me want to curl up like a armadillo on my seat, gameplay is really fun despite how nerve-wracking it is, and the xenomorph is incredible, so good in fact it made me want to close the game out of fear multiple times for the first few hours it was around. The game loses some momentum towards the final few hours with sequences that feel unnecessary and quite the weak ending, but it's far from something that would ruin someone's experience, especially with how incredible all of it's pros are. May Alien isolation 2 be as amazing or even better than it's predecessor <3
Too traumatic, do not play if you scare easily
