A sci-fi survival city builder set on an inhospitable alien planet. Faced with imminent destruction of Earth, humanity pooled together their resources and sent sleeper ships to nearby potentially habitable planets. But this one turned out to be much less habitable than expected....

I initially didnt want to recommend the game. Probably because I just failed my 8th or so game after getting so far and I'm bitter. However, the progression system is very well fleshed out with the objectives panel. The game does just enough to inform you what to do without holding your hand. It tells you that you are going to screw up and people will die. Overall, a really well put together city builder survival game...for free! I could go into a long tirade about balancing and what I would want to see from a full release but I know I'll just be met with 'git gud'. Just know that the difficulty is very high so if you were looking for a chill city builder to relax with, this is *not* it. Hopefully the project isn't abandoned and they will add more options in sandbox to completely turn off and customize the settings (ex: you can't turn off maintenance, only set it to 10%) *edit* Please add a new level of priority: emergency, where colonists and cargo/haulers will stop whatever they are doing to address the issue. I can't count how many times the whole system has cascaded into chaos and fell apart due to one item needing repairs and it taking forever to get done.

There are so many layers upon layers of materials needs to keep your fragile colony running. I always felt I was understaffed never able to get everything up and running. I think I was at most in the mid early game, I just started running out of aluminum in the colony ships, once you run out of hope things grinds to a halt. I'm pretty sure I wasn't far off getting a game over as my only near by aluminum deposit was pretty small and low grade. Overall I've enjoyed the game but I feel I'm gonna have to step back at least for a little maybe start yet another save file. There are two things I would suggest to make the game a bit more managable twitch the employee's needed for each building even with hope I found it impossible to get my colony to a stable state it was a massive struggle to keep 500ish people alive. The other one is maybe increase the amount of hope you get in general it'll just give you more time. By far my biggest issue is not knowing how to unlock technology so you can research them. Please put in tool tips so we know, just stumbling into is frustrating. Even in this state the game has more then earned the large donation amount from me
**A surprisingly deep colony builder that quietly steals your time** I downloaded Alien Horizon expecting a rough little free alpha… and somehow ended up sinking way more hours into it than I planned. The core idea is simple: humanity escapes a dying Earth and lands on a planet that turns out to be way more hostile than expected. From there, it’s all on you to turn a single sleeper ship into a fully functioning colony. Sounds familiar — but the execution is where this game really stands out. What impressed me most is the depth. This isn’t a “place a few buildings and chill” kind of city builder. You’re juggling complex production chains, managing dozens of resources, and trying to keep your colonists alive, happy, and actually productive. Every decision matters, and mistakes can come back to haunt you hours later in the best (and sometimes worst) way. There’s also a strong sense of progression. You start off barely surviving, scraping together energy and basic needs, and slowly evolve into something that actually resembles a self-sustaining colony. Getting to that point feels earned, not handed to you. The game doesn’t hold your hand much, which might be rough at first — the UI and systems can feel a bit overwhelming early on — but once it clicks, it becomes incredibly satisfying. It’s the kind of game where you mess up, restart, and come back smarter. Another thing worth mentioning: the scale. Managing transport, infrastructure, laws, and individual colonists (who all feel like actual simulated people) adds a layer of realism that keeps things engaging. And the fact that this is a free preview alpha? Honestly kind of wild considering how much content and depth is already here. It’s not perfect — it’s still in development, and you’ll notice some rough edges — but there’s a clear passion behind it, and the foundation is seriously strong. I hope this review has been helpful.
oxygen and water is very important apparently... who knew?!... anyhow you can build your own colony, and then watch your colonists survive or not
Beautifully made game for just a preview alpha, 10/10 would recommend, I'm just hopeful for the future of this game.
It' super fun! I'm so thankful for being for free :) I hope this game updates often. :D
I inquired a while back on UI support for ultra-wide monitors. If the UI was able to be scaled to be visible this game would be playable on UW monitors. the negative response I got for this from the Dev was kind of startling and I am now seeing more and more people having this issue. If you have ultra-wide monitors as your main monitor I would recommend not picking this up until the Dev changes their stance on it.
This game is cool but there is ABso;utly no way to tell whats going on or what you need it will tell you people are dying of dehydration but your water and air and everything are all green but people are still just dying i want to like this game but DAMN its doesnt explains Anything but still has a LOT of words
Please play this game now It's for free And it's GREAT!. 5 stars out of 5 stars
Very awesome small storage/high ram usage game. Very detailed tech tree and city building experience. 500+ hours in game and still havent finished the tech tree. Buggy for sure, but discord server is very helpful. Creator of game even available for help there. Full rewrite of game in the works and set for release next year.
