My recommendation of Akatori comes with a big "if" attached. The game is well made, it feels good so far, but you've gotta be ready for it to be unforgiving. I'm used to picking somewhat harder difficulties for my first playthroughs of games, even if I do struggle a little with them, but within the first 15 minutes of Akatori I found myself starting again on the "medium" difficult level. Combat is clean but tough, and at least in the early stages enemies will kill you in just a couple of hits if you slip up. On the harder difficulty, that drops to one hit. Environmental dangers carry just as much threat, though thankfully the graphical design work makes the threats very easy to identify, so if you mess up a jump you may be making a quick trip back to the last checkpoint. Still, as I mentioned before, the game does feel good, so if you're up for a tough challenge then I fully recommend Akatori.
Had high hopes for it but lack of everything that make metroidvania great are lacking here from A to Z. No reason to pick this up unless you want to check out the art style but that itself can be found in other games and many of those are better than this one by lightyear. If you must, pick it when it's on sale for a very low price.

Played the game up to the first boss. First of all, I want to talk about the visuals. The game looks incredibly beautiful and stylish. It gives off some Octopath Traveler vibes in that regard, but in my opinion, the execution here is even better. The backgrounds and character designs really stand out. The game feels great to play. The level design, animations, enemy AI — everything is well-crafted. The only thing that annoyed me throughout my playthrough was the camera. Quite often, you have to jump into the unknown and end up running into enemies or spikes. The game does have a feature that lets you expand your field of view by holding Alt, but it's not very convenient, and you can't run while using it. Considering how little space the camera normally covers, being able to move around with the expanded view would make a lot of sense. Despite the camera issue, I recommend the game, especially if you're a fan of the metroidvania genre.
A fair Metroidvania. It doesn't do anything that you have not seen in any other game of the genre, but it has a graphics and an art style that I genuinely appreciated. Combat is neither punishing or frustrating, and the respawn mechanism allow you to farm an indefinite amount of game currency. With the right quantity of potions in your possession, the boss fight can be easy to trivialize. The only thing that left me a little concerned is the story: I lost interest in it immediately after the first boss fight, and I found the overall tone of the characters a little off-putting, and sometimes also annoying actually. My suggestion is just not to bother with it. Having said that, I would still recommend to play Akatori: the art and the gameplay have some charm in it, although the rest comes with some flaws.
Lively, exciting and a bit sentimental metroidvania. By choosing the appropriate difficulty level, you'll have a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I was captivated by the visuals, story and music. Interaction with some NPCs raised questions, but overall experience was wonderful. Wish the dev team success
Yeah it was promising, until mid game where the dev changed and it seems buggy, poorly done.
I'm someone who loves hunting for secrets, and this game scratches that itch. There are hidden collectibles in pretty much every area, and finding them feels nice. Platforming is very good. I wanted even more exploration but overall very nice
