You believed tower defense is only about building towers? That's not quite right – because AIRA VR is not like other tower defense games in virtual reality. Once the battle starts you find yourself in the midst of the fight!

The game starts a bit slow with the first level being quite easy but with time it gets very good. I also peeked into the survival mode and it's quite challenging. The graphics looks nice for a VR game. I really like the different weapons and their handling! First of all, I think this game combines most of the elements of tower-defense and "shooter" really well. The graphics are cool and smooth and I really like the different designs of weapons, towers and enemies. Weps/towers & enemies' designs appear to have a good amount of work and brains in them. There's an upgrade system for the weapons, and for the towers as well, to even let you vary your tactics between waves in each level. In the beginning it's kinda easy, you can fully rely on your towers and just pewpew around, but as you progress you begin to face combinations of enemies in the waves that require some kind of tactics and planning in terms of towers and weapons. I really like that, because in some attempts I failed in either weapon choice or tower placement and after knowing some different enemy-types I started to plan my movements and changed the tower arrangements and it worked out so well. Also every few levels you face completely new enemy types, which in some combinations can be fairly hard to counter. This adds an additional natural layer of difficulty to the game. The voice acting clearly is made by professionals. All in all I think the game is absolutely worth trying, it's well balanced, has cool graphics and sounds that never overwhelm or annoy, you have various really fun weapons to shoot around with, the difficulty increases constantly and you even still unlock new things after the first play through. If it's just not enough you can create your own levels with the editor. (I haven't done this myself yet, cause I'm just not that "creative" kind of player, but I personally think this can add a s*** ton of fun to someone enjoying editors in general and sharing those levels to others) I can recommend this game, just be patient enough to experience everything and play into the higher levels, you will have a lot of fun.
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program to review this game. You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/fTvQmfp3KKA This was a tough game for me to review because there's certain things that I really enjoyed about this game. However, there were also lots of issues that were difficult to ignore. In the end, I am deciding to give this game a neutral recommendation. There is a surprising amount of depth & content to this Tower Defense game. Each wave seems to bring a new weapon to use or a new enemy to fight. You can upgrade towers, buy new towers with new abilities, or use new weapons or tools on your avatar to help with the enemy annihilation. This game is also very approachable. Even when you fail in a wave, you still get more money to improve your defenses. So definitely, the story mode is pretty easy as long as you keep at it. You will always have the ability to improve your defenses. And when you quit the game and come back, you'll have all your money back and you can decide what to buy and what to upgrade. The bad news is that almost the rest of the game could use a lot of polish. The graphics are dated; poor textures, the scales are off, and just the mostly ugly VR environments that you'll be setting up your defenses in. You can use handguns, bow & arrow, ARs, sniper rifles; the towers range from standard laser guns, to plasma multi-direction firing turrets, to flamethrowers. However, all the models of these objects just look bad and they handle / animate poorly. Speaking of poor animations, the cutscenes look like they were taken from the original Xbox. The bow & arrow is really poor in every sense. It's cool looking down the scope of the sniper rifle and hitting enemies from far away, but it has this strange mechanism where it only fires once every 2-3 seconds. There's no reload or anything, you press trigger and it doesn't fire ... wait a few more and then it fires. Just like that. That pretty much sums up the overall clunkiness of the game. Turret placement doesn't really matter all that much; it's really the synergy between all your defenses and the enemy variety. I honestly think this game could be great, if it just had more polish all around & better looking graphics; better textures, better sounds, and better weapon handling. The core gameplay is actually pretty good, especially if you like Tower Defense games. This is old school TD that any TD fanatic can enjoy ... if you can look past the lack of polish. [b]Rate 5/10. A Tower Defense of the special kind. I love Tower Defense and have been a big fan of the genre since Warcraft III. A while ago a friend of mine asked if I wanted to try out this Tower Defense VR game he developed. Intrigued because I never played a VR game before I said yes and stayed close to the development ever since. AIRA captured me immediately, the combination of Hero Tower Defense in which you can not only build towers but also control a hero in the midst of the action and VR is incredibly fun. The game starts by slowly teaching you the basics and then picks up speed very fast and gets ever more challenging the further you get. The pacing is very good and pretty much after every cleared round you get a bigger arsenal of weapons, towers and tools. Additionally you can change your tower setup, upgrade them or buy upgrades for weapons. The towers have a wide variety of designs and functions, the tools are incredibly fun (for example an elevator to get an overview or to snipe enemies) and then there are the weapons ... I love the weapons, pretty much every single one especially their designs. There are the basics like pistols or a bow and then there are weapons like flamethrowers and sniper rifles. Especially the sniper rifle (also playable in the Demo I think) is in my opinion the best thing in the whole game. Standing across the map or on an elevator sniping enemies in VR ... But you need the variety of weapons since there are a lot of different types of enemies. Flying, fast, different kind of immunities and more ... Finding the fitting weapon can be quite challenging at times but only adds to the fun. Before trying VR I only knew it from seeing demos on Youtube or stuff like VR chat, I therefore expected pretty mediocre graphics but was surprised by how good everything looks in game. Moving is smooth, I never encountered any kind of lag and didn't encounter any bugs since the full Version released. Since my first time playing this game I tried several VR games and most of them were nice demo-like games but none of them was as fun or felt as complete as AIRA. In conclusion I can not recommend this game enough especially for 20€. For a game to be good I normally say 1€ should equal 1 hour of fun and most AAA titles don't hit that mark for me whereas AIRA is far above (not counting my time testing the game)
Found it during the summer sale, i'm playing with a rift s. A nice tower defense for 6 bucks. I was surpised by the amount of content! There are many towers, weapons and tools. I really like the gun where you have to crank. The performance is good, it seems to be well polished, even if u can see that it is a small indie title. - Exceeds Expectations :)
