Aimlabs is a free aim training game made for people who want to get better at FPS games. Instead of giving me a normal shooter to play, it gives me loads of different aiming exercises where I can practise flicking, tracking, switching between targets and other basic skills. It is a simple idea, but there is a surprising amount to it once I start digging into everything available.
The biggest strength for me is the sheer amount of training options. Aimlabs supports more than 400 FPS games and has thousands of scenarios, so I can find exercises that are actually relevant to the games I play. I can also build my own playlists or use ones made by other people, which means I do not have to repeat the exact same routine every time.
I really like the feedback after each exercise too. I can see things like my accuracy and other performance information, which makes it easier to work out what I am actually doing badly. The heatmaps and statistics are especially useful because they give me something more specific to work on instead of just telling me that my score was bad.
The official Benchmarks are probably the part I spend the most time with when I want something competitive. There are Entry, Intermediate and Elite levels, with tasks covering tapping, tracking and switching. I can work through the different challenges, improve my scores and see how I compare on the leaderboards. It gives the training a proper sense of progression instead of making it feel like I am just clicking targets forever.
The biggest problem is that Aimlabs can become extremely repetitive. I am still shooting targets in a training environment at the end of the day, and there is only so much excitement I can get from improving a number. It works best when I have a specific goal in mind, like improving my tracking for another FPS, rather than trying to treat it like a normal game.
I also think it can be easy to spend too much time worrying about scores. Getting a higher number can be satisfying, but a great Aimlabs score does not automatically mean I am going to dominate in an actual match. Real games involve movement, positioning, decision making and pressure, so I still need to take what I practise here into an actual shooter.
The free to play model is quite generous for the core training. I get a huge amount without having to pay, although there are paid cosmetic items and Aimlabs Plus adds extra features and training tools. I do not feel like I need to buy anything just to use the main aim trainer, which is important for a game that is supposed to be useful as a training tool.
Overall, Aimlabs is one of those games that I appreciate more for what it helps me do outside the game itself. It has loads of scenarios, useful statistics, game specific training and competitive benchmarks, and I can use it for free. It can definitely become repetitive and I have to remember that aim training is not the same thing as actually playing an FPS, but as a dedicated practice tool, I think it does its job extremely well.
