It's fun. It's challenging. It's got depth. They just don't make strategy games like this anymore. It's the kind of game where you really feel like you want to learn strengths and weaknesses of units. This isn't the type of strategy game where you just spawn infinite waves of weaklings, or some mobile village-builder game. This is one where you really have to think through the best combination of factions and units, and try to pull surprise moves on your opponents. It's a game that takes a lot of strategizing, and I think that makes it one of the better turn-based strategy top-down games. I'm sticking around for the long-haul on this one. Looking forward to more updates.
This must be the most insane cash shop I've ever seen in any game. Cosmetic microtransactions- tolerable. 30 dollars for all singleplayer campaigns, pricey but I get it. Paywalled map editor for 20 dollars(with ai slopping tools apparently, not that i gave them a cent to check it out), actually unforgivable if you want an online game to actually thrive and have any sort of community. Paywalled factions in an online game with a ranking system obviously meant to be competitive- also absolutely unforgivable. Pricetags being 30, 60 and 90 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dollars. Or you can pay 200 dollars(ONLY 200??) to access all current and future content. 200 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dollars for the suggestion that you may not be further scammed in the future. What industry are you a part of where you think a discerning consumer will look at any other game and say that's good value? You could buy so many other different games for 200 dollars. I can't believe I'm seeing an indie game that just released to a shocking 2 reviews with such depravity. Truly shameful when companies like nintendo look less greedy than you. I would understand cosmetic DLC or even singleplayer content that doesn't affect other people, I would probably even throw them some money to support the game which otherwise seems good. But this kind of monetization is simply disgusting. I can't say enough negative about it. Edit 5/5/26: The devs actually DID pull back some of the monetization, which isn't something I expected. I still think it's egregious to charge so much for a "full pass"(it's actually $300 after 9 more purchases, $200 is a special price haha, i bet some poor sucker paid for that already.) and to nickel and dime people in such a small game(in terms of userbase anyway, there's quite a nice bit of content). BUT the map making tools are free now, and the cash shop only factions are earnable with AP as well as some of the campaigns(or were they always?). I would like the above section to remain unchanged as my direct thoughts from this game's launch, but this does show that the dev(s?) are capable of listening, and that's a great thing. Keep it up and this might become a yes one day. But not yet, not today.

AoG is a true spiritual successor and the depth strategy runs deep! Don't underestimate this game, you can easily put in a hundred hours. Even after all these years it has a dedicated community that does multiplayer with great social features akin to those on FunOrb
Gameplay is very solid. For multiplayer, the factions are pretty balanced generally speaking and the devs have done a great job of diversifying the meta over the game's existence (pre-steam launch). There's a lot of different playstyles that are viable. There's also a lot of singleplayer options as well.
I never played the game that this was based on, but I decided to give it a go regardless. ITS GREAT! obviously there's a few bugs but that's every game at the start. Music is amazing, and honestly the UI is better then I expected. Of course a downside is the Ai generated art but I can look past that and appreciate the other work put into it. Cant wait to see what else is in store for this game!
At the very start of the game, right after downloading it, they immediately annoy you by forcing you to register an account instead of using the usual Steam login. And judging by the screenshots, the game itself looks like AI-generated garbage. My condolences to everyone who seriously decided to play this. The developer clearly put more effort into review manipulation than into the game itself.
I'm gonna be honest; when I first came across this game while searching for PvP turn-based strategy on Steam, I was extremely put off just by the sheer price of the DLC that was available. The prices have since been lowered, but it was still a bit of a whiplash for a free-to-play game with seemingly simplistic graphics to have such expensive options for supporting the game (I 100% understand that devs need to survive, of course). However, when I actually started playing and came to a few realizations, it became an extremely easy recommend. First off, the DLC is in no way required, any multiplayer/PvP content such as factions can be unlocked in-game, and the game is in no way "pay 2 win," as the starting factions are among the strongest in the game anyway. In addition, the game is notably a charmingly inspired throwback to an old strategy game called "Armies of Gielinor," borrowing the majority of the rules and mechanics from it and building upon it with its own unique additions and improvements; this explains the graphical style, and utilizes a proven strategy PVP formula for intense yet relatively quick matches instead of needing to build an entire new system from scratch, which would call this indie game's future into question a lot more easily. The dev is also very responsive, and even plays games sometimes (and is good at it too, lol) but the point is that he fixes bugs, makes an effort to understand the game, and listens to/engages with the community. A slight warning; all the players I've met are friendly, but some of them played Armies of Gielinor and are very good at this game as well, so it will be difficult for a brand new player to get into ranked. But the game is easy to learn, just hard to master, and many players are willing to help. The music is also surprisingly really good; the snow map theme is my favorite. I even suggested a music player/picker and the dev put it in almost immediately. If you like turn-based strategy with both PvE and PvP, try this free but amazing game; if you end up liking it, feel free to support it!

A great game that offers plenty of content for free! The developer is very dedicated and is constantly making updates to the game trying to improve it. The best part is, all extra content can be acquired by simply playing the game. You can pay for stuff if you want to skip the grind but its worth it to play and experience everything that this game has to offer. Nice campaign, plenty of multiplayer options, and i especially like the map editor. I recommend it.
A bit off old skool pimped up nice
