Absolute gem of a game! Platform games aren't a game that I usually play but I am thoroughly enjoying playing. Charming pixel graphics, fantastic humor and such a fun theme/story makes this such a pleasure to play! I highly recommend this for anyone that is interested! Made by such a fantastic developer I can't wait to see what WhiteVault Studio puts out next!
The adventure of the Carrot Captain is an oldschool platformer game. your character can attack and throw his sword but combat is not really the focus here outside of the boss fight. the jumping require you to fall off a ledge in order to jump mid-air , outside of some specific situations like jumping off a sticky wall the game doesn't have a traditional double jump. You also have access to a rolling move that give you an invicibility frame. the boss are not super hard but can be tricky to figure out , the overall difficulty is a challenge but overall it's still feel fair. the controls respond also very well , the visuals are fine and the soundtrack fit the game mood. it doesn't re-recreate the wheel but still feel like a competent platformer that is worth trying out. there is a spare or kill for the boss , the story is interesting but I doubt that most peoples will replay this mutliple times despite the multiple endings proposal.
The Adventures of this Carrot could be seen years ago on Twitch, the dev WhiteVault a FREAKING legend of the indie dev community is a talented and hardworking solo dev who creates unique and wonderful worlds. I STRONGLY support any project from this fellow dev and I will STRONGLY suggest you go check out his live streams and join the positive and exciting live streams that they do!
The Carrot Captain is an excellent platformer set in a beautiful world. It tells the tale of a carrot warhero returning to his lands from the vegetable wars only to find it besieged. The world is full of secrets and hidden bosses the Art and Music is 10/10. My only complaint would be that sometimes the movement can feel a bit "unhinged" which could get you killed but the checkpoints are generous and most of the time you will be back in less then a min. If you like Super Mario World and salad this is for you.
I am loving this game so far. I saw the larger map and had to drop a review. Kind of reminds me of a classic platforming game Mario, Zelda or even sonic. 10/10 I hate the big faced with the spikes.
Truly the dark souls of carrot-based 2d platformers made by hit indie game developer whitevault, made in only 2 months in and out!
hi this in slicer i would like to say this if you could maybe add wasd keyboard support/60% sise keybord sorry it appers i refunded it its just so that way i dont just have two dollors siting in my wallet witch i cant buy anything with but if this is added i would purches this in a heart bead if it gets added
After 30-ish minutes of playing I was so ready to refund the game, because the controls were just so incredibly awful to play with (I'm playing on controller). However, I had been following the game for a while before this, and wanted to support the developer, so I kept at it. And I am not disappointed. While the controls do feel really janky at times, and I have died too many times to unpressed ground-pounds stopping my momentum, you get used to them really fast. And boy do you have to get used to them, because this game is grueling. The first world is incredibly difficult because of having to get used to the controls, but then you are dropped into the deep end, especially if you do the combat training first (which I highly recommend). A lot of this grueling aspect is because of the precision required in addition to the strange controls. But believe me when I say that completing a level where you have died dozens and dozens of times in the exact same place (and to actually learn the patterns and the way around the jank) feels amazing. You may need a little luck, especially at high speeds (and upside down), but if you like difficult platformers, you will really enjoy this game, even if it takes a little while to not hate every second you are playing it. P.S. I have not hated dirty mustaches more in my life than this moment. Those stupid blocks can burn in the (second) deepest pit of hell, for all I care. And the worst part is that I'm pretty sure they'll be back.
It's a fun lil cartoony platfomer game to play, I'm quite fond of it. If you have lil time and money to spare, I would suggest giving it a try and support the dev out. I'm sure you will find yourself liking the art style, characters design and music cuz they are adorable and awesome. That said, the dev is only ONE person, so there still lot of bugs and glitches in the game. BUT he is trying his best to fix them all everyday so just try and be patience with him.
Not everything that shines is gold and not everything with 100% positive reviews is playable. Meet Captain Carrot, not the hero we want but the one we have. He jumps around, can only jump in mid air upon falling or after landing on enemies so long as he attacks them first from above. Even so if they dare to move upwards they can still hurt him and most obstacles in every level. Basically, the player controls a finicky cartoon hero made to piss them off and entertain the audience through “hilarious” banter and quirky dialogue. There’s also currency to buy items and powerups which don’t shake the formula by much, different worlds to traverse and certain side challenges to attempt. All of this provided the game works, and… Holy crap, this might be the most broken 2D platformer I’ve played and that’s saying something upon looking at my library. Nothing here works properly, nothing, not even the bug report option since the site is shut down. In the menus the player will find themselves even struggling to move up and down, in the overworld to just move or interact with the environment and in the levels themselves it’s so much worse. Sometimes a hit will land and others it will not. Sometimes the game will decide you can’t finish a level for no reason because you’ll get stuck in a platform or in mid air or a boss can’t be hit. Maybe you’ll find yourself winning a battle because it decided to kill itself for comedic effect. Even unlocked areas may become locked once again here and there since the save slot goes between automatic and manual randomly. It’s a complete disaster. However even outside of that, what baffled me the most was the key mapping. Let’s say you can accept that the upper button (Y) in the joystick can be used for accepting and while some options appear horizontally in certain menus the left and right keys do nothing. Strange but passable. Then some bosses have cutscenes super slow whose dialogue you skip with that button, then there’s a pause and you press the left button (X) so that then it may start. Annoying, but sure. Finally suppose you want to pause to get a drink and since your joystick ran out of batteries you press Enter. Nothing. Escape. Nothing. Hmmm, maybe V? Nothing. Press press press… oh it paused. Wait, what did I-WHAT?! YOU PAUSE THE GAME IN THE KEYBOARD WITH ‘ñ’?! And that’s on my keyboard since in the international one it’s the ‘`’ key. Is the developer a vim user or something? This control scheme doesn’t make any sense. To be somewhat fair to the deve, if I were to point out something positive about the game it would be the sprite work, the general presentation and… that’s about it. The whole playthrough was so incredibly irritating that even trying I couldn’t focus on a single line of dialogue nor enjoy the soundtrack. By the end it wouldn’t even let me go back to complete what I had missed since the bit of information that should have told me that bugged out. Sadly appropriate finale for a game in dire need of a patch or being delisted. Don’t play this.
