Fantastic game, good job! I was looking forward to it since I saw your tiktoks <3
Great 3 hour experience, a lot of fun with mainly movement based interactions and an entertaining story.
I have to say, this game has love put into it. It's a wonderful concept with an amazing design and an unsettling atmosphere. However, this is a very basic indie horror game that was definitely made by someone in their spare time. I have a lot of good things to say about it, but a lot of negatives too-- most of which are what you would expect from a first horror release title. That is not to discourage this developer though, as it's incredibly hard to make a game and for it's price its absolutely worth the play. For the first game this developer has released (on Steam at least), it is an astounding start. Spoilers ahead in a more complete review. Starting with the positive; - You can tell while experiencing this game, all three hours worth, that this was made with love, purpose, dedication, and commitment. There is no part of this game that feels half-assed, and I respect that. - The atmosphere is good in the start, the horror is there with unsettling visages and a perfectly chosen voice over. - The art style is phenomenal, I adore how this game was designed and sculpted. - I rarely see horror games in this side-scroll style that do it well, and while it didn't do it perfectly, it's a breath of fresh air to see something so unique. - Gregor. That's all I have to say, love that guy-- disappointed I didn't get to see him again. - The nods to Egyptian mythology were cool, they didn't entirely make sense to me but I enjoyed the weighing of the heart as well as the stylization around it towards chapter three. - The scene in which you feed the pig-stylized monster 'human slop' made me chuckle, it was a great concept and I really enjoyed it. - Even while frustrated, you can tell this is a labor of love and nothing is too hard in the game, simply the pacing at times can feel incredibly slow-- as you can only walk. - The sound design was great, some sounds were a little *too* loud for my taste and often I repeated 'Oh my lord, my ears' several times while large doors were opening, but most of the design was flawless. Now onto the negative nitpicks and flaws; - The lack of music, if it was a design choice, was not my cup of tea. I enjoyed the few instances in when we had a background ambiance, but without some sort of background to tie it together, it felt empty. - There were many scenes, cutscenes specifically, in which you very, very, very slowly descended stairs or make your way down a hallway. While this was neat at first, after the third time it made me sigh. The pacing was much too slow. - The death screen is startling and glaring with no cut between death. It feels very in your face, and not natural. It was hard to adjust to. - The collectibles were a cool concept, especially in the later chapters, but often were very, very hard to see even with a keen eye and with a mildly buggy interaction system, many times I did not even notice the eye I had magically clicked on. - The sound-design at some parts was glaringly, horrifically loud. There is nothing wrong with a good metal-on-metal screech, but when it's loud enough I can hear it with my headphones off, perhaps it's time to turn down the volume-- the only issue, however, is that the game is normally quiet, so it feels like a waste. - With the monsters, occasionally you cannot see them based on the angle or if they are hidden behind objects, which would not be an issue most of the time. Yet there were several instances in which you could not check where a monster was at safely, and had to rely on overlapping sounds. - The ending felt predictable, the entity was neat and I enjoyed the design, yet it was underwhelming. The whole sequence of walking through the dunes was beautiful at first and mesmerizing, but after about three minutes of slowly creeping across the screen it grew dull. - I miss Gregor. A lot actually. I would buy a little plushie of him. Them? Her? That little fella. Overall, I would still recommend playing this game. Always supporting indie devs has been a huge mission of mine, and as long as the game is made with love, it is enjoyable to me. I hope this developer releases more in the future, and I would be happy to play any of their other games. For the price, its an absolute steal for three hours of playtime.
I don't write reviews often but I really liked this game. amazing sound design, loved the aesthetic and I genuinely had goosebumps here and there even tho I play a lot of horror!
Genuine scary moments with a really cool atmosphere throughout. The restrictive movement didn't feel bad but just an extension of the story. Clearly very ambitious with a lot of big ideas with only one or two missteps. The dev/devs clearly know and enjoy horror of several different genres. Keep making games!
I pretty much liked the art direction of the game and they did superb work on the Audio . The puzzles are fairly easy to solve. I recommend the game to everyone that likes side scrolling games
