About
A Simple Square is a minimalist puzzle game where every move changes the level.
Choose a direction, and your square slides in a straight line until it hits an obstacle. But there is one essential rule: every tile you cross disappears behind you.
An open path can close behind you. An obvious route can trap you. To reach the exit, moving forward is not enough: you need to plan the exact order of your moves.
A Simple Square is not about reflexes, but about reading the grid, anticipating consequences and applying logic. Each level is short, readable and built around a clear idea, but a single wrong decision can block the entire solution.
As you progress through the campaign, new mechanics expand the rules without betraying the simplicity of the concept: stop tiles, forced directions, keys, doors, teleporters, hazards, blocks and other variations that gradually change the way you think.
In addition to the official campaign, A Simple Square includes a level editor that lets you create your own puzzles directly in the game.
Thanks to Steam Workshop support, you can publish your creations, discover community levels and extend the challenge with new puzzles designed by other players.
240 official levels spread across more than 8 worlds.
World-based progression, with new mechanics introduced step by step.
Short and precise levels, designed to be understood quickly and solved methodically.
A medal system to optimize your solutions and aim for the ideal number of moves.
An integrated level editor to create your own puzzles.
Steam Workshop support to share your levels and play community creations.
An Infinite mode featuring procedurally generated puzzles.
A Speedrun mode with timers, segments and leaderboards.
Steam achievements and leaderboards to extend the challenge.
The board looks simple. The rule takes only a few seconds to understand. But once you start sliding, every decision leaves a permanent mark.
Move carefully. The path behind you will not stay open.

6/10. Abstract movement puzzler. Get from the start to the finish without painting yourself into a corner: Every time you move, the space you passed over is removed. Because the world changes with every movement, this kind of puzzle means that you can't really work backwards like you can with a lot of games. You really have to think from both directions. Whether or not this is positive or negative is a good question. I find that I often get frustrated with this kind of design on harder levels, and end up experimenting randomly until I brute force it. This is inherent in this kind of game, and is in no way specific to this particular implementation. It is quite solid with a clear difficulty progression that takes you from “trivial” to “you have to think carefully” in about 20 levels, and it teaches you the mechanics by example rather than tiresome walls of text. Good Job! Note that it's not only a simple “tiles disappear after you pass over them” rule, as there are some variations here that are fairly standard, such as some tiles that are one way or more stable than others, etcetera. Nonetheless, you've definitely played something similar to this in the past. The graphical style is very abstract and simple, certainly completely serviceable and not ugly, but also not winning any awards for “juice”.
