The game was very well made and I am satisfied with it. I am happy it got successfully funded on Kickstarter. Short but sweet. Pros: - The graphics are exceptional - Nice soundtrack - Interesting story line Cons: - There are a couple of unfixed glitches - Would like to see sidequests, make the final enemies easier, and some kind of ranged weapon Overall 9.5/10 P.S (the last level looked yummy)
Extremely well made game! The visuals are truly remarkable, and any one who has interest in pixel art, will love and enjoy playing this game! The controls are very well calibrated, and are easy to use. There are many levels containing unique characters and enemies, and there are level upgrades for the character which I find especially interesting, and a good aspect for a game containing levels and experience. There are many fun aspects to this game, which gives it a more wholesome experience.
I gotta say, I was excited that this game was finally finished! I was part of the Kickstarter and I saw alot of potential in the project. I couldn't wait to play after 3 years! However, this game was nothing but disappointing. I usually review a game under 5 points: Gameplay, Story, Characters, Art Style, Music. For me, a good game passes at least four.
Spoilers Ahead

Gameplay
The gameplay would be pretty good, if not for its simplicity and repetitiveness. You only have two attacks, the Light-Blade, a slashing attack that you will using all the time. The other attack is the Dash Kill, which can only be charged by killing enemies and best used foor killing groups of enemies. You can also use a dash that allows for quick travel and dodging, but has a stamina gauge for limited use. It can be increased by leveling up. These are the only actions available to you and no variety or upgrades to make the gameplay more exciting. Note: Dash Kills and sleeping on beds require the keyboard, even when using a controller. There is no option to bind these actions to the controller. Dash Kills are worse because you need the keyboard and the mouse to use. The game can be easily be beaten without it, making it somewhat useless. Enemies Almost all the enemies are generic and only these enemies appear throughout the game, reskinned with the same attack patterns: slimes, humanoids that throws projectiles, spiders, and wolves. The only exception is the small rock brutes in the first level, which are never seen again afterwards. The bosses are no exception and even less variety: giants and dragons. Giants are mid bosses that appear at least 3 times per level, have only one attack (a projectile that's easy to call out and dodge), and do nothing else. They are just obstacles that are reskinned throughout the first 3 levels. Dragons are always the final boss in each level, are stationary, and only have one attack(a string of projectiles aimed at you) and spawn generic enemies after their attack. The most grievous boss is the Final boss of the game and is the easiest boss! It does everything the other end bosses do except spawn enemies after it attacks, giving you more time to put in more damage without worrying about other enemies. The Giants and dragons do have small variations like the effect of their projectiles but they can be taken down the exact same way: dodge, attack, dodge, attack, etc. Levels There are only four levels: a medieval forest with rivers, a snow covered forest with freezing rivers, a nuclear wasteland with red lava/blood rivers, and a wooded outpost with boiling purple rivers. Even most of the level designs are reskins of each other! The levels are all straight lines; extremely linear. The level design is the same overall layout and comes in two varieties: outside and caves. Caves are just as linear except for them being darker and more maze-like. Few have new obstacles but only appear in two levels: spikes in the snow level and motion sensor bombs/flame traps in the nuclear wasteland. And they're all supposed to be on different planets but they mostly look like places on Earth! Note: During gameplay, the Health, EXP, and Dash Kill bars will sometimes block your view on certain parts of levels. There are no options to remove or change the HUD.
Story
The story is basic: a Knight, James, fights a war in medieval times. A dragon appears and he runs. He's saved by a time-traveler and sent to the future. He is recruited to fight an evil organization...that's it. There no subtle nuances, lessons learned, some deep philosophical question we should be answering, or moral dilemma to justify the short amount of gameplay. A game can be good without them if everything else (gameplay, characters, art style, music) about the game is good, but it isn't. And the twist at the end makes no sense because the game ends right there. The game took me an hour and a half to beat and they end it on a cliffhanger!
Characters
Characterization is non-existant and sometimes used for exposition. James, the main character, is bare bones at best. Some things are confusing about him, like being taken to the future after just coming from a war and he takes it all in stride and almost questions none of it. Its like, “Ok this is my life now.”. There is no reason to emotionally invest in anyone in this game because there is no emotion shown at all by the characters.
Art Style
Arguably the best part of this game...besides the part where almost everything is reskinned, but I already said that earlier. The 8-bit style is done wonderfully, and the cutscene where you go to the future city is pretty beautiful...too bad its the only good animated cutscene. The other is a spaceship flying in the black void of space...which isn't that interesting. In the levels trees sway in the wind, snow falls, lava bubbles, its all pretty good to look at.
Music
Also arguably the best part of the game, the music. My favorite would have to be the boss music! I would comment on it more, but the first two levels have this SFX that drowns out the music and I realized that the levels actually had music when I reached the third level! Also the music doesn't loop until you move to a new area, so listening to the music is very limited. The music is good but there are alot of programming oversights and bugs they forgot to fix.
Verdict
Gameplay: Simple, but extremely repetitive. Levels and enemies are reskins of each other with the same attack patterns with little variation. It's also short, I was able to beat it in hour and a half. [0] Story A nearly nonexistant story with an unexplained/wierd twist ending cliffhanger. [0] Characters Characters, that are not James, mainly exist for exposition. James is the only character with any emotional weight but we barely explore it and the story just passes it by. [0] Artstyle A beautiful 8-bit game, its eye candy, but underutilized. [1] Music A great soundtrack bogged down by programming issues. [1]
Score: 2/5
Note: The Kickstarter had the stretch goal of a second ending, but there is no hint on how to achieve it in game. I would appreciate anyone who knows how. Note 2: After beating the game, your save file deletes itself. Must be a bug.
Enjoyable game for the time it lasts, well-handled gameplay, excellent visuals; worth at least one playthrough
A great, difficult slash em/beat em up style game. Very nice story. Art style is beautiful! For an indie game this is really nice!! I do wish that there were a bigger variety of enemy types throughout each zone and same with bosses. Performance on my system was a little bit choppy with the FPS which is weird seeing I run a R5 3600 and a 5700XT and the game isn't graphically demanding. Did encounter a few bugs but it didn't really ruin my experience. However 3 achievements which I have tried to unlock, are simply not being unlocked even though I have 100% completed them, I. Am. Speed., Brutal and Flame-thrower. Overall this is a great game that I recommend to anyone who wants to kill some time for a bit and beat up some enemies!
Fun game really well made. This game is great value for the price it is!
I got this game after contributing one dollar on its Kickstarter 3 years ago. I honestly forgot about it until I got sent an email with a key. I was like "hey, that could be fun" so I downloaded and started it. Seemed promising at first; cute enough story and simple gameplay. It's incredibly unpolished and needs some serious testing but it's not unplayable. The gamepad works for most things except menu navigation and the main "time freeze dash" function so I'd awkwardly have to use the mouse whenever I wanted to use that ability. The enemies also lack any real interesting features. They don't have attack animations, they just hurt you by walking into you which was disappointing. After completing the first world I was planning on giving this game a good review since I feel it was worth the one dollar I spent 3 years ago, but then I saw a familiar creature on second world... This game has a stolen asset straight out of Hyper Light Drifter: the Crystal Spider. Stolen sprites and animations. You can even see it in the game trailer about 8 seconds in. Afterwards, I started seriously taking a look at how none of the sprites really have any stylistic consistency. I couldn't find any other pieces of evidence of theft after that, but in all honesty I pretty much stopped playing after that. I no longer trust this game and don't want to support it anymore. This game only made about 1300 dollars on Kickstarter, but when money is involved, you can't steal assets out of a better game. TLDR: Stolen asset out of Hyper Light Drifter. Most likely stolen assets from other games as well.
Some achievments are broken, so I'll probably never be able to 100% it, wich is very sad. I kinda enjoyed it, the history looked good in the start, a medieval warrior that was rescued by a time traveler and brought to the future, where is revealed that he's special and got something that makes him amazingly useful in combat and he'll help the time traveler's cult to defeat some bad guys terrorist group, but yeah, thas basically it, after this point all the story is like: "oh great, you defeated the dragon from level 1, now we found a clue that will lead us to level 2..." and all you find on level 2 is the same enemies from the last level, same attacks, same amount of hp but with a different skin, even the bosses are the same for every level, a static dragon that spits fire on you and spawn 2 enemies, then you have 10 seconds to attack it until he starts shooting the same projectiles and spawning the same 2 enemies, the only difference between them is that the lvl 1 dragon is red and spits fire, the level 2 dragon is made of ice and spit frozen fireballs or some ♥♥♥♥ like that, the third level dragon is a mecha dragon with different skin fireballs and the final boss is just another static dragon, but this time he have 3 heads and more health points and spawn no enemies to bother you, making THE FINAL BOSS THE EASIEST ONE TO DEFEAT, bro...................... its just... don't buy it, you'll waste money and time.
Not appealing on many levels at all
This is a fun game that doesn't take long to complete. It is a very simple process to follow, making the game easy to follow and understand what to do. If this game had more stages, it would be a really good game that would take time to complete. Overall, a fun game.
