I have played through most of the game and here is the my synopsis:
The base game is definitely worth the price.
Base Game:
- Weapons: 3 rifles, 4 secondaries, and 3 pistols each one filling specific roles such as Damage per bullet to damage per second to fill out different play styles. Upgrades can be found in each area, completing certain tasks such as getting gold metals for a section of the game, or sometimes leveling up.
- Enemies: there are heavies, commanders, and specials (snipers and Suiciders). The placement and pacing of enemy encounters are fun and challenging but not impossible or hand holding for the player.
- Maps: There is campaign and survival. The campaign is silly and entertaining but deep understanding of college graduate is not needed to understand what is going on (after all you are fighting Nazi zombies from hell with Hitler acting as a gravemind from halo). They tried to make each area stand out from the others so you are not staring at the same building and walls all the time. Survival is a shake up compared to other games in that new weapons with different upgrades will appear the longer the rounds go on as well as ammo crates moving about to prevent turtling. Overall it is great 8.5/10.
DLC:
- Weapons: Most of them are more powerful than base game weapons once they are fully upgraded but it can be a grind to upgrade them as instead of using upgrade kits, you will have to complete challenges with them.
- Enemies: A few of them on the new maps will appear to be cosmetic (bat creepers) while others will be mix of different types of enemies (Armored Commanders, Frankenstein Iron Giants). Overall they will present a new challenge to their respective maps without being impossible to deal with.
- Maps: They typically stick out a lot more compared to the base game and actually fun to play on even though some of the earlier maps have some balancing issues. The campaign with all the dlc maps does tell a full story together and gives much more background and lore of the story if you are into that. 7/10.
Conclusion: I do think the base game is certainly worth it even at its full price as of 08/24/2026. The DLC you can get the Season Pass One for free to try out the new maps and weapons and use that to decide to get the other season passes at full price, when it goes on discount, or not at all (The season passes are just the dlc stuff just grouped together). So overall 8/10.
