I'm a huge souls fan, and I will say this game rivals the best souls games in terms of combat. Yes, the gacha can feel weird and be a turn off at first. But you can play this game free to play and unlock any of the items/characters in the game. It's more pay to progress than pay to win. If you were to compare the gacha system to Pokemon cards, you can start to see that the gacha system isn't all that bad. Getting a character in this game is similar to getting a rare card in Pokemon. Except that you can get the character entirely for free by saving up in game currency, and also guarantee getting the character through the pity system. Also, it being not guaranteed to get every new character that releases in the game every patch makes getting a character feel more rewarding. Imagine if you were to get a holo every Pokemon pack you open, it would diminish the feeling of you feeling like you pulled something rare and cool. The benefits from having the gacha system is stuff like getting story quests every month or two. A whole new area every couple months. It's like getting a whole new WoW patch every couple months, which is insane. Some of the story can be a miss, especially the start of the game, but some of the story quests are genuinely amazing. From the top of my head, I would say 3.1, 2.5, 2.4, 2.7, and 1.3 patches were my favorites because of the story in those patches. There are definitely some patches that just feel incomplete when it comes to storytelling, or just a slow-burn with an unsatisfying pay off. But when you do get to patches like 3.1 and 2.5 and fully pay attention to the themes and storytelling. They are amazing, and the presentation is perfect. All my life, I was very against gacha systems, but as I got older, I started to understand the benefits that come along with it. Though I feel this way only towards developers that show genuine care about there game being good, such as Kuro Games, vs companies like MiHoYo, who just try to milk there customers dry, and somehow the quality of the game gets worse over time despite making more money every month. If you were to compare Wuthering Waves 1.0 to now, it would feel like an entirely different game. I started from day 1 on this game, and I can't lie, I walked away from it for months after how bad the launch was. I expected the game to flop, but now it's one of my favorite games to play at the moment. I recommend giving it a try and pushing through the bad story in the start. If you enjoy the combat in the beginning, you will start to love it as you keep going and start pulling for the new characters. I would give the trials a shot, just so you can get a feel for the new characters and how smooth the gameplay is. I would say the games story steps a lot when you get to Septimont in Rinascita, which starts in 2.4. Though, I will say Shorekeepers quest is great in patch 1.3 as well. That's pretty much it for the review, and if you end up playing, Journey well!

Really bad. Returning player. I am lvl 3. As i logged back in the game started with some unskippable cutscene where many characters i never ever seen before starts saying goodbye to me, as if my story was over, and then i ended up in some challenge against lvl 90 enemies. I am level 3!!! Clearly there is some disconnect for returning players.
As many have stated, I do not understand how this game can be free. There is so much you can do, so much to explore. The story is beautiful, the combat is amazing, and every bit of progress feels really rewarding. I have played many hundreds of hours on the official launcher prior to switching over to Steam, so multiply my in-game time by at least 6.
