An enjoyable short story with a charming couple of main characters with some really well-written banter. The dynamic between Luka and Xander is a lot of fun, which is a good thing since it comprises about 70% of this story haha The story is largely built around their interactions as they go on dates (though neither of them are too keen to define what they're doing as 'dating') and generally get to know one another better. There are two distinctly different paths in this VN, which branch off at your first main choice: one without r18 content, which focuses mostly on the two characters getting to know one another better before deciding if they want to date or be friends, and one with r18 content which focuses a bit more on the physical side of their relationship. The characters talk about and joke about sex a lot in both paths (there's a lot of lewd puns like "that date sucked... and not in a good way!" scattered throughout both paths), but one path is less explicit than the other and has no r18 artwork. Both paths were fun and offered different insghts into the two leads and their lives, though the r18 path felt shorter than the sfw path (+ there were a couple of r18 scenes in the nsfw path which don't have illustrations, which feels a bit disappointing for an r18 VN, but there's still quite a generous amount of artwork in this game given its length and price). There's a lot of choices in this VN and several endings beyond the two main paths, and it was fun seeing how the scenes can play out slightly differently. You learn different information about both lead characters depending on the choices you pick, so it's worthwhile to do a fun different playthroughs. This is one of those VNs where your choices actually matter and feel impactful, unlike a lot of VNs with choices which change about 2 lines of dialogue and nothing else lol Overall, the story was a lot of fun. It moves along at a brisk pace, it's short enogh that you should be able to finish it in one or two sessions, but it's not so short it doesn't feel worth the asking price. Both main characters get fleshed out a fair bit, and the endings are diverse enough that if you disliked one ending, you can probably get a different, morre satisfying ending if you make different choices. There's a lot of art (Xander has a lot of different goofy shirts which are very charming lol), the UI is polished, the choices actually change things, and the voice acting, though partial, is very high quality. The voices elevate this even higher, and they make Luka and Xander even more charming. TL;DR: I enjoyed this VN a lot, I can easily recommend this VN!
💬 Supportive Caveat Wrong Number is an M/M visual novel centered on Luka and Xander’s evolving connection, with routes ranging from platonic to friends-with-benefits to a somewhat romantic outcome. Both leads are written as bi/pan-coded rather than explicitly gay, and the narrative embraces a fluid, socially expansive worldview toward relationships, including casual dynamics and open relationship discussions. Players seeking a tightly focused romance grounded in clearly defined gay identity and a distinctly gay male gaze may find the framing broader than expected. This is a matter of tonal alignment rather than quality. The game is polished, occasionally humorous, and features well-executed 18+ scenes. 🎮 Gameplay & Genre Wrong Number is a short, choice-driven visual novel built around dialogue decisions that shape Luka and Xander’s evolving dynamic. A full route can be completed in about 2 hours, and most endings can be unlocked in a single session with careful saves. Outcomes range from platonic to friends-with-benefits to a more explicitly romantic resolution. There are 14 achievements, most tied to route completion and branching decisions rather than difficulty. This is mechanically low-stress. Your primary investment is narrative tone rather than gameplay complexity. Replay value comes from seeing how the relationship philosophy shifts across endings rather than from radically different plot structures. 🔥 M/M Content This is an MLM-centered story, with Luka and Xander as the primary relationship across all routes. The 18+ scenes are well illustrated, clearly staged, and among the strongest elements of the game. The sex is consensual, visually appealing, and confidently drawn. However, both leads are written as bi/pan-coded rather than explicitly gay. The narrative openly references attraction to women and explores flexible relationship models, including friends-with-benefits dynamics and open relationship discussions. Romance is possible, but it is not the default trajectory and requires intentional choices to reach, as the romantic route is easy to miss. The overall erotic framing is broad rather than specifically grounded in a gay male interiority. This may work well for players who enjoy fluid, socially expansive dynamics. Those seeking a tightly centered gay male romantic focus should be aware of that tonal distinction. 🎨 Visuals & Style The art is polished and expressive. Character sprites are attractive and varied, and the 18+ CGs are particularly well executed. Backgrounds are clean and readable, and the Australian setting adds flavor without overwhelming the narrative (it also helpfully includes a glossary for Australian terminology). Partial voice acting is present but somewhat inconsistent. At times sprite mouth animations suggested a voiced line even when no audio played, which was occasionally distracting. The original soundtrack supports the light, breezy tone well, and overall presentation remains strong. 🗣️ Tone & Writing Luka is written as deliberately flawed: casual, self-aware, sometimes opportunistic, and openly resistant to labels and romance. The story leans heavily into an individualistic worldview, emphasizing personal autonomy over communal or relational stakes. This creates a modern, socially flexible "situationship" energy. The game does contain genuinely humorous moments, and Luka’s irreverent voice will likely resonate with players who enjoy sarcastic, self-aware protagonists. Depending on the route, the tone can feel playful or emotionally diffuse. The romantic ending does offer growth, with Luka reluctantly but sincerely choosing commitment. That route is genuinely sweet. However, much of the narrative prioritizes flexibility over emotional narrowing, which may leave players seeking a more focused romantic arc wanting greater gravity. Whether this resonates will largely depend on the player’s own preferences in romantic storytelling. 👍 Best Thing The art and 18+ scenes are strong, and the romantic route provides a satisfying payoff if intentionally pursued. 👎 Worst Thing The relationship focus often feels diffuse, with casual and socially expansive dynamics taking precedence over a tightly centered romantic arc. ⭐ Final Verdict Wrong Number is polished, short, and easy to finish, with attractive art and a genuinely sweet romantic route if pursued. However, its fluid relationship philosophy and broad sexual framing mean it does not center a specifically gay male gaze or exclusively gay romantic identity. Players should approach it as a flexible, dating-focused VN rather than a deeply grounded gay romance. Super fun game to play through, got me invested in the two characters enough to look for all endings because I just love their dynamic so damn much lmao 69/10 would play a sequel or anything bonus
While I believe you really need to play all the endings to justify full price, I really enjoyed my relatively short time with Wrong Number. Despite only having one love interest Luka and Xander had amazing chemistry, and they had such natural well-written banter which the VAs did such a good job with, especially Thomas G Burt who perfectly sold me on Xander's character. I also liked the CGs on offer, and the music was fine. One criticism mostly comes from the scope and budget limitations this game had. I loved every single line that had VA, which just made me wish it was fully VAed lol. Another thing I had mixed opinions on is the overall game progression by splitting the endings between a SFW or NSFW main route. On one hand, I'm impressed by the work of making both routes distinct from each other and not simply making the SFW route the 'censored' version. On the other hand, in the game's description it says the rationale is to accommodate streamers. However, I don't think locking out 50% of the content for them is necessarily 'accommodating' them whereas a simple censor would have sufficed. As a side effect, I felt a bit of cognitive dissonance between SFW route Xander and NSFW route Xander; it kinda felt he was a completely different character at times which wasn't the case for Luka. While I liked the NSFW route more overall, I actually preferred SFW's version of Xander as his emotional nuances were given more breathing room to be depicted. On a more positive and personal note, as an Aussie I completely adore the local references and slang that helped me connect so much more with this game. I hope this won't be the last of Luka and Xander, and I will definitely will be purchasing the accompanying short stories and artbook. This game has lots of heart!
A nice, fairly straightforward (no pun intended) romance VN. A little on the short side, but at the same time, feels like a good length for what it is going for. The art is nice, and the writing as well. Good dialogue. The voice acting is quite nice too, though it's a bit jarring at times because it's a bit inconsistent as to what lines are voiced or not. (Most of it is voiced, but not all) My main criticism (which mind you isn't that big of a deal for me) is that while the story is refreshingly open with the relationship and sexuality spectrum, it does kind of feel like the SFW route has the 'good' endings, and while NSFW has the 'bad' endings, as far as the usual VN definitions go. (
Maybe I missed it, but kind of bummed not to have a 'dating/romance relationship' ending in the NSFW route
) Still, would definitely recommend for a nice, sweet, short time.
Wrong Number is a short, but charming and highly replayable visual novel bromance. The lack of reviews made me hesitate on this one, but I took a chance on it anyway. I'm glad I did and am happy to add my own review out of support for the game. I'll grant $10 is a bit of a steep price for a game that runs about an hour and a half. Like most visual novels, Wrong Number promises several play throughs worth of value experiencing multiple endings and paths. Unlike many other visual novels, I found myself actively excited to play this game start to finish multiple times. I don't mean just fast forwarding through everything, or save scumming, the second time through just to see the alternate ending. Rather, I remained actively engaged from start to finish the third and fourth time I played Wrong Number. Ultimately, Wrong Number does deliver game play proportional to the price. I figured the "safe for work" option was the same story with less suggestive text and art, but that's not the case. It's a completely different story. And in both paths, different decisions trigger alternate scenes that keep a third or even fourth play through feeling fresh. Without a guide, I believe there to be more scenes I haven't yet triggered to find, too. I'm not finished with this game. Both Luka and Zander are dreamy and the art is great. They look good with and without their clothes on. I appreciated that they wore different clothes from scene to scene, also. Gives the player more ways to appreciate them. Either boy is welcome in my bed anytime ;) The not safe for work path felt much more natural than the friendship route. In all routes, through all decisions, you learn additional things about both characters which really allow you to get to know them on a pretty deep level. There's some dissonance in the just friends route, but it's still cute. And fun to experience. It's possible I just haven't figured out how to trigger the best endings, too. I feel for Luka's best friend Ash. Masterclass in being regulated to the friendzone. Yay for side characters that have depth, if you're paying attention, though! It's not the longest game, but games with male protagonists into male love interests are few and far between. And I enjoyed Luka and Zander's story more than most of them. There's a lot of replayability here, too. There's nothing mind blowing here, but if you like games like this, and you're on the fence, I say give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised.
Amazing game
I had a great time playing this! The boys have such good chemistry, and they're both lovable characters in their own right. I also really liked Ash for whatever reason, he's just such a neat guy lol (ALSO, the VAs did a fantastic job, it was just the cherry on top 👌) The story branched out more than I expected, and it was cool to see Luka and Xander's relationship change slightly (or a lot!) depending on the choices. The art looks great, and the subtle camera effects and sprite animation make for pretty dynamic visuals. A very fun VN overall!
