World of Tanks is a tactical action game with very different gameplay depending on the vehicle type and role. Aside from regular PvP, there are competitive and clan-based modes, special PvE and PvPvE events, and much more. Whether you play to dominate or just enjoy the ride, you'll fit right in.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.

I returned to this game after a pause of maybe 8 years and this game is still bad, really really bad. You still have the same old problems. 1. Although this game is 15 vs. 15, it is basically a 1 vs. 29. NOT A TEAM GAME AT ALL. 2. Sometimes you can tell from your first 2 shots that RNG is not in your favour. Meaning WG decided you lose this game and totally fail this round. You have no influence there. 3. Money tanks and autoloaders everywhere. It used to be more tactical in the beginning, now its just ammo spamming. 4. And the last big thing is, there is no ELO system in match making although everything has a ranking in this game. This results in matches where sometimes 2 super players steamrole the entire enemy 15 weak players without a sweat. Play something else. REALLY. It isn't worth your precious time.
It's an abusive and predatory business model. The game is full of bots, and the matches are made up of such unbalanced teams that it seems intentional. Matches only last 5 minutes, during which one team crushes the other. When the algorithm favors you and you're on the winning team, you won't miss your shots, your tank's armor works better than usual, enemy bots will ignore you or only fire at you a couple of times, etc. When the game puts you on the losing side, it doesn't matter what you do; the shot dispersion is huge, and if shots hit the target, the bounce probability increases considerably. Your team's bots will be running around in circles, while the enemy bots will massacre you and even shoot at your tank without it being detected.
Honestly I was enjoying this game but then I kept dying and doing no damage. I thought maybe I just suck at the game but it is far from that. After finding out how pay to win this game actually is with it's "gold shells" I now realise it was never a skill issue, It was wallet warriors and the game itself. Genuinely disappointing.
Downloaded World of Tanks because I thought tanks were cool. Turns out the real enemy was my own team. I spent 10 minutes driving across the map just to get shot by a tank I couldn't see. Then my teammate called me a noob. He was driving backwards. 10/10. Nothing builds character like spending 5 minutes hiding behind a rock just to explode instantly.

This game is like a drug, it is addictive. It hurts your health yet you keep playing.
World of Tanks is a game I have thousands of hours in, and that makes this review even harder to write... Because the truth is: I used to love this game. The core concept is still fantastic — tactical tank battles, armor management, positioning, map knowledge, and the satisfaction of mastering a vehicle. Few games have managed to capture the feeling of commanding historical tanks in such an accessible way. Unfortunately, over the years, many design choices have pushed the game in a direction I can no longer recommend. The biggest issue is the growing gap between new and experienced players. A newcomer entering the game today has to face years of accumulated content, highly specialized veterans, complex mechanics, and a huge number of powerful premium vehicles. The learning curve has become extremely steep, and the game does very little to make this first experience enjoyable. The balance has also suffered from years of power creep. Newer tanks, especially premium vehicles, often feel stronger and more forgiving than older ones, making many tech tree vehicles frustrating to play. The increasing importance of premium ammunition also changes the way many engagements play out. What was once a situational tool has become a standard part of high-level gameplay, creating situations where armor and positioning can sometimes feel less meaningful. The monetization has also become increasingly aggressive. Premium tanks, battle passes, subscriptions, boosters, special events, and various paid systems constantly encourage players to spend money. None of these features are necessarily bad individually, but together they contribute to a feeling that the game is becoming more focused on monetization than on improving the overall experience. The 2.0 update did bring a welcome breath of fresh air. New content, changes to progression, and some quality-of-life improvements showed that the developers were still trying to evolve the game. For a short time, it felt like World of Tanks was moving in a better direction. However, these changes were not enough to fix the deeper issues that have accumulated over the years: balance problems, accessibility for newcomers, and an increasingly complicated ecosystem. After thousands of hours, I reached the point where I simply cannot recommend World of Tanks anymore. The foundation is still excellent, and there is a great game somewhere underneath all these decisions, but the current direction makes it harder and harder to enjoy. Like many former players, I eventually moved to War Thunder, which has its own problems but offers a different approach to armored combat and progression that feels more refreshing today. I will always appreciate the countless hours I spent in World of Tanks. But for new players looking for a tank game today, I would think twice before starting this journey.
greedy company with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ rng, the game itself isn't bad but as time goes on war gaming shows that they don't care about the players, lootboxs with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of new op tanks and nothing new for research, matchmaking is a joke and they just reward those that won't even open their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game when the loyal players get level 2 premium tanks or camo
