I will say that this review is written after my second playthrough of this game (1st was on xbox), and I generally still enjoy this game for the most part. I think this game has a lot going for it, but a few things that kind of leave a bitter taste in your mouth. Good aspects: Gameplay: It feels pretty good, weapons look cool and feel good to use (and are quite varied), many levels allow for you to use stealth or loud combat (some force loud combat, but I think only one makes stealth "essential" for a short bit), most enemies look distinct, and the perks feel rewarding to unlock. Ultimately making most levels feel quite enjoyable to play even on Uber. Story / Worldbuilding: I really like this game's story and characters, I think that they managed to make Blazkowicz a unrealistically strong character, yet mentally grounded, where you can understand how he feels, he still acts like how anyone would, even though it's a highly unrealistic scenario. I also appreciate how they kept his strength consistent like when he gets stabbed in the prison, punched by a super soldier, or drugged to high hell, etc. It is interesting seeing a depiction of the world where the nazi's using super weapons (as in futuristic tech, not the real life stuff made by the Wunderwaffe), were able to win ww2 and make Germania. I love how it even goes out of it's way to show you why the nazis were considered so evil, instead of portraying them as a one dimensional faction. The ost: It was done by Mick Gordon, and sounds quite good, really capable of building suspense, or complementing the combat very well. Difficulty: This time I did it on Uber, and I thought for the most part it felt fair enough (minus a couple of levels). Performance: The game ran pretty well for me even when I increased my graphic settings to ultra. Things that were bad: The pc port: While serviceable, it is a bit rough looking worse than the xbox version than what I remember (not just going from 4k to 1440p, like not being able to make anything out in certain environments notably the safehouse raid and the 2nd half of the final boss fight), when you unlock a perk the message would get stuck on screen (could be a widescreen related issue), and certain tutorials would either stuck on screen to or not show up, like the one for leaning in the first level. Closing the game would make my screen dark until I restarted my pc, and audio seemed unbalanced with voices and music being way too quiet, yet guns were at volume you expect, also you cannot window the game. None of these seemed to be issues on the xbox port of the game. Certain levels: Some levels were significantly worse than other ones like the entirety of the bridge level, the Deathshead bossfight (notably on uber difficulty), and a couple sections of the safehouse raid. Some of it was the garbage check points, like in the deathshead bossfight where you could stuck reclaiming your arsenal after you respawn then attempting the fight again, or the bridge where one of the check points would spawn you in an area where enemies could start blasting you after you respawn which is crappy. It was easier doing them on this second playthrough, but I still struggled with this specifically. The other levels weren't bad about check points or level design, but these ones struggled with it. Achievements: Most aren't bad, just that there's no reason for really any of them to be hidden on steam. All-in-all I would say that this game is absolutely worth picking up even on sale, it is quite enjoyable, and minus of couple of bugs is quite fun to play.
