TLDR; Is The New Order worth playing in current year? Yes if you're wanting a conclusion to The Old Blood game. A fun time and continuation of BJ's Nazi Killing Spree and with more ways to kill for extra fun!
Combat/Stealth gameplay is pretty consistent here just as with The Old Blood (given the fact it came out before that game). The gun sounds are pretty nice and beefy, energy weapons are zappy and the melee is pretty good for the most part, so long as you hit the enemies at the right time. The game can be considered easier with stealth though in some sections either stealth or full on combat can be just as fun and easy. However with UBER difficulty it ramps up the challenge and makes things more interesting, unlike the UBER difficulty in The Old Blood.
Story is decent for what it is. The fact that it doesn't shy away from the horrors of a world living with the horrible Nazis and their concentration camps. Just makes killing the bastards in all manner of ways all that more fun. For a game that came out during 2014, it holds up decently well all things considered. The characters are interesting enough to carry you through the story and the villains are overly evil, sometimes evil for sake of evil (But remember, they're nazis so evil is what they are). The final boss was pretty fun and a proper challenge. Far as I see it, The Old Blood and The New Order are two stories that fit well and end that arc well. Didn't really need a sequel with New Colossus in my opinion given the ending of this game.
I will say though, I could do without the sex scenes in my shooter game. Felt out of place and didn't really need to see it to know BJ was tied to another character romantically. Though take it or leave it, I'm just happy you can skip the cutscenes after loading is done, which is pretty fast on modern hardware.
Replayability is pretty good, as there's a choice at the start of the game that will effect the later missions in the game depending on who survives. So that was fun to see, however, there is a clear choice that does make things more interesting in my opinion as you get access to a cooler gun with one over the other, but seeing the two stories is still worthwhile in their timelines.
Secrets and collectables are back again (going off of playing the games in order of story), the gold, enigma codes, and letters are all here. In addition they added health upgrades and weapon upgrade kits for various guns you can find to help you change up your playstyle if you find them. I was sad to see that the Nightmare mode was relegated to the safe house and only one level. I'm happy they managed to expand on that in The Old Blood as they were pretty fun.
This is a fun game to sit back and shoot, strangle, vaporize, blow-up, and maim all the Nazis you want to your heart's content. Really is fun killing Nazis in this game as if you needed any more reasons to do so, they game still gives you plenty of reasons and that just makes killing them all the sweeter.
