Wolfenstein: The New Order

The game is good, but the actual fight secuences are rather short, but over all, killing is really fun.

Completed this several years back, gameplay was decent, choice of different combat styles was a nice idea and worked well in execution, Story was...fine, however, if I had a criticism, it felt like I was having to suspend my disbelief far too often. I appreciate it's a Wolfenstein game and we're just here to shoot nazis, can't complain, game ticks that box, but there are way too many moments in the story that leave you wondering how is this even possible, that we've gone from being in a vegetative state for 14 years and somehow retaining the physique of an NFL Linebacker (Play MGSV to get a better idea about how this would actually go down), to hijacking a U-Boat singlehandedly, to travelling into Space, only to return and fight Kaiju sized Mech's. Again, the gameplay is enough for me to warrant recommending this game for a single playthrough at least, it's not as good as RTCW but it doesn't take a narrative nosedive in my opinion the way The New Colossus does.

This is such a bad game. Story, characters are all great, but holy ♥♥♥♥ does the game control like absolute ♥♥♥♥. Swapping weapons is sluggish and it routinely ignores a command to swap weapons because you are technically still in another animation. In addition, you have a hotswap button that is supposed to swap to your previous weapon instantly. It keeps randomly assigning weapons to that button at various checkpoints. So you think you are about to swap to your sniper and you take out a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shotgun while you're getting peppered from afar. Oh yeah, and just wait until the game takes your inventory away, every like two hours. 'Oh, new chapter! Here, we removed all your guns for you, go ahead with just a knife for now'. Yeah, thanks game, I was waiting to be bored, how did you know? Randomly slide doesn't work. Crouching under things, even those required for story progression, randomly also just doesn't work so you get murdered by a scripted event metal dog chasing you, forcing a reload. It just works poorly man, I don't know what to tell you. People are glossing over this because the story is good and fun, and of course killing nazi's is always a good time. But this is one of the worst functioning shooters I have played in the past 20 years. Oh, and let's not forget the level design head who actively sat at their desk for several weeks trying to come up with ways to have you run around the level that is now empty of enemies, looking for where you need to go to progress. Love that dev, he really nailed his objective of making sure the game is more boring than it needs to be. Action game with great characters and a story? Can't have you engage with the combat sandbox, listen to the story or experience these characters in succession... Gotta make sure all that gets paused for stupid busywork every 5 to 10 minutes. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell, what a mess of a game. I swear to you, if it didn't have this setting and had good characters and story, people would actually admit the gameplay is the complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that it is. Overrated junk.
