This game is not ready in its current state. But, I have been PINING for a multiplayer space shooter for a long time since Subspace Continuum has been relegated to the internet basement for the last 10 years. I hope this game succeeds.

Seems like it could be fun with tighter controls, better AI, general polish and most of all, other players. I didn't see a single other player.

"Wings of The Universe" was an overambitious attempt to make a ripoff of Star Control 2 (which you can play for free on Steam as The Ur-Quan Masters), only this is worse in every respect and the developer abandoned it. What do you do in the game? Fly around in a weak SpaceWar! style arcade shooter thingy and pretend it's a real, finished game. Or, you know, play Star Control 2 if this is the kind of thing you bought a 5090RTX to play. The developers abandoned this 1 year and 8 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. On the topic of visuals, the weak looking 2D retro assets seem like they'd be more at home in a browser game or a mobile app. 3D graphics accelerators hit the mainstream of PC gaming in the mid 1990's with cards like the ATI Rage and Voodoo3D, there's no excuse for such poor 2D graphics in 2025. That alone is enough to disqualify this for recommendation. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 11 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
