ABANDONED!!! This game is considered abandoned so please do not buy. RePatrick21 has responded to zero bug questions in discussion nor on discord, provided no timeline or road map for development nor is engaging with the purchasers of this game. It's a sad story, but alas we should understand this outcome since the developer also abandoned Afterinfection - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1341210/Afterinfection/ Video to come.
Okay, it's yet another solo indie developer co-op and PvP survival game. We've all seen this a thousand times before right? But this game is better than 90% of the other survival games on Steam here at launch It's got pretty impressive AI that avoids walking though rocks and trees and that defends itself against your attacks or attacks you on sight if it is a meat eating aggressive dinosaur. THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THIS GAME IS THAT ARK SURVIVAL EVOLVED IS ONLY $3 MORE! I like what this solo indie developer has done here and it's much better than I expected going in. It's got bugs and glitches and stuff that needs work.. but it is still very playable and I can see friends having some fun with this title. https://youtu.be/hDwq4nRF-Lo The question is.. Do I recommend this game? Well that is a question that will be determined by this developer honestly. ..Will he continue to work on this game when he sees that his dream of making a million dollars doesn't happen with this? ..Or will he do as hundreds of other solo indie devs have done over the years with their survival games and quickly abandon it? For now, I'm going to give this developer the benefit of the doubt and give this game a "recommend" but if I come back in a couple or three months and see that has no substantial updates, I will change my review to a 'Not Recommend'. Time will tell whether this game is a real recommend or if it should be NOT recommended. However, one thing is for certain... The developer NEEDS to drop the price to $5 USD or under to compete with ARK SURVIVAL EVOLVED. We all know that this game isn't even close to that quality and polish so it can't only be priced a few dollars less. THIS GAME NEEDS TO BE PRICED MUCH LESS THAN ARK TO STAND A CHANCE AT ANY SUCCESS.
Game hasnt been updated since launch. It's a complete buggy mess of an asset flip by a dev who is known for abandoning games, Afterinfection being one of them. Save your money and buy a real game with a real team behind it who cares about the player base. I give it a modest 1/10
Similar to Ark Survival Evolved when first released into EA. Day/Night cycle/lighting = Good. Graphics Overall = Good (Ark like) Water = Good/reflection (but can't swim) Inventory/Crafting Interface = Functional Mission/Quest Interface = Functional Creatures = Look cool, movement/sound limited. Building Mechanics = Similar to other games Server Browser Interface = Functional (2 servers, US Central, US East) Only issue noticed, after opening windows (inventory, crafting, etc). got stuck where couldn't move. Escape key didn't close the menus opened. At this stage, the game is mostly functional and has all the key interfaces in-place. Just not sufficient content to warrant purchase at this time so refunded. I encourage the developer to continue to add dinosaurs and refine. Will look back later in the summer. Good job so far though.
game visually is a great walking sim. online is so laggy cant play and solo is a little better but not much. give it 2 years of development and it could be a good rust and ark in between with a few thousand players
another basic survival game using assets
Don't be fooled by the screenshots. This game is absolute jank. To begin with, it is very poorly optimized. I was getting constant frame rate drops with an RTX3080 no matter what I selected in the few graphic settings, especially after each time a resource is collected. This game also caused my pc fans to race with gpu temps above 80 degrees Celsius. Character movement, animations, and sound effects are also pretty bad. The game also starts Steam-VR and there is no tutorial. There are also dinosaurs everywhere in this game that bug out and get stuck in the terrain and often appear to be dancing in the distance. Another highly annoying thing about these dinosaurs is that many of them are highly aggressive and will attack you within minutes of trying to get anything going. And once they kill you, you lose everything in your inventory after you respawn. This is seriously a low budget cheap experience that I cannot recommend.
Games 100% trash. Skill tree perks dont work properly. You desync from the server constantly making it impossible to use items. Dinos teleport when you try to kill them. Player movement feels clunky and off set. Dont waste your time with this game.
Yikes...
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ ⚠️ This game is not ready for public use. ⚠️ ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️ It's every bit an ARK wannabe. Even so much as being stranded on an island full of dinosaurs and having to pick a region— 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 —within which to start. When you level up, you get 1 skill point to put into 1 of 3 stats. I'll never understand why people keep making terrible knock-offs of much, much better games— and I don't even really like ARK. There is no character customization. You're either an ugly male or an ugly female. That's the end of your choices. The game is constantly spamming the "Saving..." message on the top-right, but never actually saves the game. The very first time I tried to play, the character was carrying 11.x/100 pounds of materials and suddenly couldn't move after I looked at my inventory. Nothing I could do fixed it. Exited the game and found out the above, that the game never actually auto-saves at any time. I also spawned at level 1 next to several level 27+ dinosaurs. The building sequence is non-standard. You have to make a forge before you can make a workbench. Speaking of non-standard— some of the controls are not standard, but they can be changed in the settings. The crafting materials required for each workstation is incredibly high. Something like 80 stone, 50 wood, 20 of something else, 20 of a fourth thing to make the forge. You get 1 to 5 resources each time you interact with whatever the resource is, and they're depleted just like ARK after 1-2 uses. I'd say this isn't worth even the $2, on sale, that I spent on it. Anyone who is a fan of ARK might as well go play ARK.
