The meditative loop of building our your colony is one of the best in the genre. With games like Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress, it feels as though the colony builder is competing with the chaos engine to generate meaningful stories. When you fail to meet the challenge, when you miscalculate in either of these two games, you're most likely getting ready to start up another colony. In Whiskerwood, there isn't as much direct challenge to building out your colony, to experimenting with different pathways and tunnels and levers, except what your colony's supply chain can handle. As long as you have something to give the tyrannical claws, and perhaps the pirates, you'll make it another few days. Mistakes and failures in Whiskerwood feel like problems to be fixed, not "the reason my colony failed and everyone died." And that's probably the best recommendation I could give this game. Even mistakes make you want to keep playing.
