Tried the demo and was hooked and snagged the game a few hours later (after I stopped doing "one more day" and "ok after this builds I'll stop") I haven't played a builder game this enjoyable since Banished. Game isn't finished but I would say it's already better than most AAA games these days (semi-low bar now I know). They update it on a pretty regular basis. You can tell the devs actually care about the game and player enjoyment. It has art style, music, and an enjoyable game loop. Can't ask for more than that. You start out getting dropped off on an island (you can pick which one doesn't have to be the one you get set in front of) and need to setup food and shelter. Break out those mining picks and fishing poles! Chop some trees Whisker! Now you're established and here comes the tax man. Is it the tax cat or is it actually the tech research reward cat? Perspective changes on that one. There's more to do than just setting up farms and paying off the tax cat (fat cat?). People are getting really creative on their build layouts in discord. I've seen Factorio looking islands, old style villages, a pyramid island with a track station. Fantastic stuff. You can play the game without bothering with the decorations you start with or unlock but once you start using those you really unlock the visual appeal of the game. Plant some trees of different types and drop a few fences and lightposts and go from bland to smiling. The overall gameplay style is up to you as you can build tall (one town with everything close by) or wide (build over multiple islands). If you're on the fence about the game go check out the demo. And if things don't make sense just join the discord; a lot of us in there can answer questions.
Mice under the oppressive rule of tyrannical kittens, what's not to love? Seriously this game is amazing and the updates they do are great. They very responsive to bugs and make updates. Though I would love to be able to re-roll islands without losing my mousey settlers, or just re-roll certain mice... Seriously this game is so much fun!
Einfach geil ^^
A very well-designed and surprisingly alive game. What I like most about Whiskerwood is how thoughtfully everything is designed. There are almost none of the obvious silly decisions and stupid mechanics that you can find in so many other games. It really feels like the developers actually played the game themselves, thoroughly tested the mechanics, and carefully thought through how everything should work. And you can really feel that. The game does not grab you immediately. But once it does, it is very difficult to stop playing. You can easily spend an entire night playing without realizing how much time has passed, simply because you cannot find a reason to stop. The game becomes especially amazing once you have built a lot. You create complex logistics, set up production, organize the movement of resources, and eventually you can just watch everything work almost by itself. Your colony starts to breathe and feel alive. Seeing everything you have built actually function as a living system is absolutely fantastic. I also really like the story elements. There are various story-related tasks, events, and decisions that you have to make. They bring the world to life and make the game much more interesting. The story is not as deeply developed as it could be yet, but even in its current form, it makes you think and forces you to make meaningful choices. Overall, this is a game I can genuinely recommend. I especially recommend it to anyone who enjoys building, engineering, and logistics. If you like not just constructing buildings, but creating a working system where everything is connected and eventually starts functioning almost on its own, Whiskerwood is definitely worth trying. A very engaging game that can easily keep you playing for many hours.
Great!

I don't think I've ever shared a review for a game before but just had to give a shout-out to this amazing game and dev team. I picked up the game at launch of early access and after 100+ hrs with Act 1 alone, it has been well worth the $30 pricetag. With a detailed range of difficulty settings, this colony sim can be as cozy or as intense as you'd like. Even with higher difficulties, once you get your production lines established the game can start to get slow (note: reviewing after Act 1 only). But that is when I start focusing on bigger projects just for the fun of it, like linking all my islands by a subway system dug beneath the ocean floor, building a town completely within a mountain, or using all the decoration options to make my cities stand out. Each new start to the game provides hours of entertainment and whenever I sit down to play I know that I'll end up spending much longer with the game than I probably should because I get stuck in a loop of playing for 'just one more cycle'. Even with a backlog of games I want to get through, I always find myself coming back when a patch is released to see what's new. The devs are very receptive to feedback and continue to expand the scope of the game further. I'm excited to see what future updates bring.
