About
THE STORY: WELCOME TO THE SEWER: You have hit rock bottom. The world around you is decaying, rendered in brown hues and digital noise. You are not alone, but your companion is not a friend—it is a narrator who sees through the facade of modern existence.
What Did The Chicken See is a dark, philosophical journey that challenges the player to question the systems that govern their lives. From the rigidity of the education system to the hypocrisy of social labels, nothing is safe from critique. This is not a story about saving the world; it is a story about dismantling the illusion of it.
This is a Visual Novel and Interactive Fiction experience focused on atmosphere and narrative depth.
A Conversation with the Void: Engage in a tense dialogue with a narrator who challenges your beliefs.
The Illusion of Choice: Navigate through dialogue options that test your perspective. Are you making your own decisions, or are you just following the script written by society?
Glitch in the System: Immerse yourself in a world that feels broken. The visual and audio design reflects the psychological state of the protagonist, using distortion to blur the line between reality and nightmare.
Psychological Narrative: A weird, introspection-heavy story that breaks the fourth wall and critiques systemic control.
New Retro Punk Visuals: A unique art style combining PS1-era aesthetics, CRT filters, and glitch effects to create an uncomfortable, dream-like atmosphere.
Atmospheric Sound Design: An unsettling audio landscape that complements the visual distortion.
Short & Focused: A concise, narrative-driven experience designed to be played in a single sitting.

I liked the narrative, it seems to be in parallel with Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophy, or the idea of self-overcoming, individuality, morals based on perspective, god is dead, and personal growth. I am not very familiar with the subject so forgive me if I don't interpret the game correctly, although it reminds me of the Magnus series from Sons of Welder, the whole idea of awakening and gaining true self-awareness, and finally making your own choices. The underlying subject of the game seems to the the criticism of the society and its established pillars, as well as inner monologue and pushing past your self-identity that was suppressed by the subjective morals gained from the education. The only reason the review is negative is because the game is like 7 minutes, I don't mind short games but I think it's reasonable to expect a little more for $5, try to aim for about 1 hour at least, I think you will find many games with a similar experience, but with 5-10 times more content, especially if you doing a linear visual novel. There were some "choices" in the game, but they didn't have any additional content, just there to support that context that you don't actually have a choice, and that even moving toward your goals, sometimes only achievable through conforming. Not entirely sure what the symbolism with the hook means, in the game the character appears to be stripped from his identity to be remade from the blank state, so I can only guess that means gaining self-awareness and becoming the king of your world by cutting the identity that was fed to you all your life. However, you are still on the hook and the game implies that you are a slave, perhaps that means that even when you make your own choices and make your new identity, your path is still limited by the imposed establishment. I have no explanation for the chicken, I think it's just for the lols, inner monologue, maybe, that takes the shape of the chicken. Or I am completely wrong.
Pros:
(+) I thought the 3D visuals looked interesting, just not enough of them in the game. Not too many VN games go for it, so if you made something bigger, I think it would stand out. (+) The writing is interesting but it appears to be just that specific philosophy, I didn't feel like you added much to it, other than the chicken.
Feedback:
Random things: - the game is 7 minutes, it's way too short for $5 - I know contextually the choices don't matter, but I still replayed the game 3 times just in case, so a more experienced developer would anticipate and reward the player with something new for doing so - If you make a similar game, maybe try to add a little bit of scene navigation like a graphic adventure, 3 panels with left or right, some optional interactions - the edgy chicken writing felt a little forced to me, sometimes new devs try to make cool weird games, but they try too hard, and it diminishes the impact, you can be a little more subtle Overall Thoughts: 4.5/10 It wasn't really bad, just 7 minutes, you need to make longer games. The visuals and the writing were decent enough, just needs more content. I would recommend either adding some choices in the next game, or partial exploration like text adventures. The writing can be a little more subtle, it feels like the game is trying too hard to be weird. MAN I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME. THIS GAME IS PROBABLY THE BEST $1 I COULD'VE EVER SPENT. IF ANYONE NEEDS TO KNOW IF THE GAME IS WORTH IT, IT TOTALLY IS AND I WOULD RECOMMEND IT 100%. LOVE THE OWNERS AND HOPE TO BECOME A CHICKEN MYSELF ONE DAY.
games mad short for 3 euros the concept is executed quite well though reminds me of a teachers lecture as in they explain to you a topic one singular time and expect you to understand the topic, which makes you think about the ideas in the game it isnt a necessarily good nor bad thing, although it could be improved if filler content were to be added. take noexistencen of you and me, the game cost 2 euros and you could see that the devs put a lot more thought into it, as in the themes and random pauses from the game made you think about the concept of the entire game which it was based off of, might be a me problem though due to me being new to vns and uhhh friedrich niche spoke of this (due to the theme of the übermensch or the overmen in the game as they are called) the idea behind the game isnt necessarily bad its just that it feels a tad bit too short for 3 euros edit: some parts of the game felt ai written as in the tone/personality of the text changing as if a different person had written the script, which in the eyes of most is a sign of bad game design and such, its better to have a poorly written visual novel than an ai written visual novel
