OVERALL: I strongly recommend Versus: Deathscapes - there is a lot it does really well, but also some big flaws. (The first 2 parts of the series were the best, on par with the great Infinity Series, and The Wayhaven Chronicles). I've tried to lay out what makes me think the experience is really worth it, as well as warning what to prepare for, so you can decide. PROS: Some particular strengths are its DLC content, allowing you to opt-in to extra advice. It structures its choices clearly, so you're not left guessing as to whether the choice aligns with the stats you have been culviating. It's stats were also quite interesting in that they built up and changed over time - an unusual but really interesting feature. There were varied endings in terms of the stats you built, and the alliances you made (rewarding for coherent choices across the trilogy), making the story feel truly responsive. And the scope of the narrative (using interesting philosophical experiences to explore the perspectives of various acquaintances) gave a depth to the world and its mysteries. These are all reinforced by its large, but earned, achievements. CONS: That said, I agree with some of the criticisms - particular that the relationships (both friendships and romances) weren't given enough development, so felt a disappointing to not have as much pay-off for your investment in those characters as you'd like. And while the ending tries to provide enough closure on the story, balanced with setting the groundwork for future stories, it doesn't pull this off completely successfully. I think the reason the ending doesn't quite give enough closure is because this is the end of the Versus story. In other words, we do get to finish our time on the planet Versus, make many satisfying decisions, and see several arcs; but we also won't get to see our character deal with a core plot that drives decisions in this book. And I think the character we invested in (their choices and motivations) needed to see that through.
So while I have absolutely loved every one of the stories from this author so far, I just found this one to be dull. The story had a lot of information that just didn't lead anywhere, and half of it cam across with the feeling of reading a textbook. As I got about halfway through this story, I had to just click through in an attempt to stay awake. The choices made in the previous titles seem to have made no impact in the final outcome, and it really undermines why the other stories were even there. Simply put, I didn't enjoy this one at all. A terrible way to end this series. 2/10
Well this last installment of the Versus story line truely sticks to its roots in both being immensely thought provoking, and with its ability to provoke Intense emotions in those reading it. There were moments when i was so angry at the way things were going, at the utter lack of being able to choose to respond to a situation in a manner I, the player, wanted to. Seriously I yelled and cursed a dozen times or more at being so railroaded by the plot. I was seriously upset being stuck with all the left over characters that only got a passing mention in the first two books, while Everyone I knew and had some sort of interest in one way or another, was stolen right beneath my powerless eyes. I totally ended up not caring one bit for any of these third wheels, maybe unfairly to them, because I wanted my story to continue with the characters I had gotten to know over the course of the first two books. To say I felt cheated by that plot mechanic would be an understatement. There is One Character that is an exception to that plot mechanic, but as it happens it was the one character I liked the least (okay detested) from the second book. Without spoilering who, for those who have read the first two, Ill just say that the character that sticks around pretty much represented the epitome of petty evilness, purposely manipulating, lying to, and sacrificing anyone and everyone else around them to protect their own skin. And this was the only character left from the originals I had to interact with on an ongoing basis for the entirety of the whole story!!!! See Lots and Lots of provoked anger. That said, there is just so much interesting plot to read and discover. Some of it I figured out in the last book, and the reveal kind of felt anti climatic. Some other stuff just struck me as truely inspired, especially in incorporating it into the setting of this kind of story. In the end, i ended up with a "good" ending that reflected my chosen goal(s) from the start of the first book, through the second, and refined and reinforced in my choices in this last book. It left me with a real mixed bag of emotions. So I'll just reiterate my protest of having had all my previous relationships from the former books meaning / coming to naught in this one and being saddled with having to get to know a bunch of people I could really careless about as a definite negative, while grudgingly admitting that the story line sans friends/relationships was still really really well told and engrossing. I'll go with a recommend as this does wrap things up as promised (For the Versus Triology). That said I dont think ill be reading anything else by this author, as their priorities in story telling, and my desires as a reader definitely suffer from Friction.
Honestly was so excited to see the conclusion to such a game but found the ending to be poorly written and not worth the hours to grind through this book. The characters' relationships are paced in a rushed manner, and there are too many talking points that seemed to drag out for no reason whatsoever. Honestly, the Lover ending was just so disappointing. Especially since the choices seem vague to begin with. Would not recommend .

Lockdown
It answers a lot of the questions from the previous games, though a little rushed.
very good
