Up All Night: Daybreak — демка кинетической новеллки о нечисти и самокопании.

One thing I love about the UAN overarching narrative is that it never loses the horror genre to the fact that the protagonist is becoming more acquainted with the monsters he fights. Even though Nick fights monsters on the regular, you never interact with it, never see it, and Nick has stayed the broken shell of a fearful teenager that he was when the proverbial fecal matter hit the metaphorical fan in the first game. He remains a protagonist that is just trying to survive (when he isn't self-sabotaging) and that makes the series retain it's horror feel where most series would have long since lost it.

A gorgeous follow up to the original "Up All Night"! The game beautifully presents its short but compelling story, following up on Nick struggling through the horrific events of the first game. It makes good, stylistic use of its assets and camera angles to really pull the reader into the haunting tone of the story. The music also perfectly accentuates this mood. Would absolutely recommend for anyone who's played the original, or is willing to put down a few extra bucks for that essential context.
It wouldn't be an Up All Night game if it didn't feature an emotionally traumatized Nick Torres. Great game as always, the art looks even better. Very short game (completed in roughly an hour) and not a huge continuation, so I'd consider it bonus content at the time of writing this. Looking forward to more!
Up All Night: Daybreak is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This e-book might make you throw up in your mouth a bit, the cringe factor is almost at weaponised levels. This e-book is a love letter from the "author" behind it to his imaginary boyfriend, who's a bit of a "bad boy". Yeah, is there a word in the English language that means "even more than cringe"? Because we need it right now, to describe this. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at only 3 concurrent readers... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print 3 copies to satsify the entire world's demand for it. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
Don't mind the playtime on my profile, I accidentally let the game run while doing housechores and listened to the main menu music the whole time. That said, it was absolutely worth it; the story, graphics, an audio all combined make for a wonderfully scary experience that ends on a much more hopeful note compared to Rumination, and I'm really excited to see what the sequel has in store!
Her gece, kabus üstüne kabus.
It's interesting. Looking forward to the continuation!
A short but compelling follow-up to the original Up All Night, Daybreak definitely sets the scene for a sequel. Even though he's going there to hunt vampires, I hope Nick finds some purpose in college. As much as we enjoy watching him suffer, this broken man deserves at least a little goodness in his life.
