Trick Or Beat

Good game, fun, short matches of 10-20 minutes with a good progression

Trick Or Beat is a really clever card battler that I found easy to get into but surprisingly difficult to master. The basic idea is simple because I am trying to win a one on one match in one of two ways. I can build up my trick pile or defeat all of my opponent's creatures, which gives every match a nice amount of flexibility. What I liked most is that I have to build my deck at the beginning of every match. I choose a small selection of cards from a larger pool and then have to find synergies between them on the spot. I enjoyed this because I cannot simply rely on one prebuilt deck forever. I have to look at what I was given and figure out how those cards can work together. The lane system adds another interesting layer. Creatures can be placed into safer passive positions where they cannot attack, or into active positions where they can fight and use more of their abilities. I liked this because it means positioning is not just cosmetic. Moving something into the aggressive lane can make it much more useful, but it also exposes it to more danger. The ability combinations are where the strategy really starts to shine. Some effects are much stronger when they are timed around another card or ability, so I am constantly looking for opportunities to chain things together. I liked those moments when a setup finally clicks and I get far more value from my cards than I expected. My biggest issue is that the small scale of the matches can make some games feel repetitive once I understand the main patterns. The visual presentation is cute and colorful, but there is not a huge amount of variety in the battlefield itself. I would like to see more cards and mechanics added over time so the strategic possibilities keep expanding. The competitive focus gives the game a lot of replay value, though. I like that it is not built around pay to win progression, so the important part of winning is still understanding my cards and making better decisions. The addition of quests and progression rewards also gives me something to work toward outside the matches. Overall, Trick Or Beat is a smart little card game with a strong foundation. I enjoyed the quick deck building, lane management and ability combinations, and the two different victory conditions make matches more interesting than a simple race to reduce health. It could use more variety, but the core strategy is genuinely fun. Rating: 6.8/10

Ich find das Spiel top. Am Anfang muss man erstmal reinkommen und sich die Karten genau durchlesen, aber man kommt gut rein. Man denkt sich verrückteste Spielstrategien aus und stellt fest, dass dein Gegner eine genauso verrückte Strategie hat. Außerdem gehen die Spiele nicht so lange (ca. 10-20 min). Ich finds auch ein super Spiel um zu zwei mit meiner Freundin zu spielen. Also Empfehlung geht raus ;D
