A wonderful short, story based game. I'm really happy that I did decide to pick it up and try it. The only sad thing is that there wasnt more of it you did a great job making it c:
Pretty cool
'Trail of the Wretched' - не для тех, кто ищет позитива.

Trail of the Wretched is an enjoyable visual novel. It's a linear story with the opportunity to make some snarky conversation choices. You might even get to say something profound.
Oyun değil hikaye dinleyeceğiniz harika bişey. Gece yatarken bunu açın uyuyun ninni gibi geliyo.
"Trail of the Wretched" comes across as more of a fancy Choose-Your-Own-Adventure e-book than a real game, although it does seem to be genuinely developed and not an asset flip or anything. The game's story is presented as bleak and focused on a photographer tasked with capturing the "horrible beauty" of a fictional Old West-inspired continent. Most of the gameplay is just focused around clicking through rather mediocre e-book fan-fiction dialogue. The graphics aren't great, low poly filtered monochrome assets, barely any animation... the world map is just a segue into the next mountain of badly written e-book text. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 5 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "maybe" experience... if you have a lot of free time on your hands and nothing else to do, why not? But for the purposes of a review, this isn't something I can say everyone must try. It's not quite there. Valve doesn't give us a "maybe" option in reviews, but if they did, that's what I'd choose for this.
This game wants to be Disco Blood Meridian, and these are good inspirations, but emulation only goes so far. There are some interesting elements; the setting is intriguing, navigated through an overview map similar to that of Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, with semi-free exploration. The monochromatic palette is effective and the character portraits are expressive though executed in a bland comic-book style. However, the writing itself is predictable, coarse and full of uncorrected mistakes. Elysium-type games of serifed text in a vertical column rely heavily on the words themselves, and with all respect to the author, these needed more work.
this game is profound
It's great but stay very far away if you are not into the flavor. That flavor being there is no pure love but there is pure evil and that evil most of the time wins - because most people are too stupid and lazy to understand and fixing things is more work than they want to do. That level of work being zero. I'm going to go lie down now and never play or read anything by this dev again. But it's great.
A brilliant text-based adventure game that begs to have a sequel made. The tension is palpable with an antagonist you'll love to hate. Recommended.
