Situated midway between shoot'em up and musical game, Towards a Perilous Journey puts you in charge of a squad of two ships in Virtual Reality. Go through each of the 24 chronicles and face the many enemies that will appear according to the rhythm and intensity of the music.

"Towards a perilous journey" is quite a disaster... it's a VR exclusive "shoot 'em up" where you wave your hands around to control two ships that shoot from an oblique perspective (this perspective never works in shoot 'em ups, but gets used whenever developers think they've cracked the problem and worked out how to make shmups into 3D blockbusters... and these developers are wrong every time they come up with this idea that no developer ever thought of before, several times a year). What do you do in the game? No music related gameplay, that's for sure, and it's unclear why the developer was misleading in their store blurb. You just wave your arms around in VR and look at crap graphics. I'm assuming you have the sound muted because the music is some of the most godawful crap I ever heard. Did the developer think they were going to get rich somehow by confusing Steam with Spotify??? The graphics here are particularly awful, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment. It's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at less than 100 concurrent players, they couldn't even break three figures, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
