As i stated in the trailer , It´s a great game :)
Overview:
'Time Break 2121' is a first person shooter where you manipulate time in order to defeat enemies and progress further in the game. It's directly inspired by 'SUPERHOT', a game also themed around bullet time although way more polished than 'Time Break 2121'. Don't get mislead by the description on the store page as it says and I quote: "Whenever you stop, time flows; you move, it stops.". Now it doesn't actually do this as moving doesn't stop time, it only slows it down. Play as Jax, a 28 year old man that took part in something called the "Time Break Project" lead, a project designed to alter individuals by planting a chip inside them in hopes to create super soldiers that would protect the city. With already existing debt that had to be paid off, Jax's sister who worked with the project, convinced him to join stating that his participation would solve their financial problems. Although the project itself did work and super soldiers were made, there also came plenty of setbacks costing the lives of many people (including Jax's friends). The ones who did make it began protecting the city and all was well until their superiors ordered them to execute a group of civilians to address an "overpopulation" problem. Clearly against the inhumane request, Jax and the others refused and eventually ended up fighting against the ones who created them but came out severely overpowered. Jax somehow survived and is the only one that can possibly fight against the evil corporation that created him. The game actually isn't bad and has some pretty decent merits but unfortunately it's littered with too many flaws that make it more frustrating than fun.
Gameplay:
Like I previously mentioned, 'Time Break 2121' plays like 'SUPERHOT' but rather than slow time when you're standing, you actually slow time when you're moving. So it's basically a reverse 'SUPERHOT' that actually doesn't play too badly and is quite challenging. The goal is to either kill all the enemies or get to the end without getting hit. Much like 'SUPERHOT', enemies (for the most part) die in one hit but so do you. This means playing the game in real-time is pretty much impossible and you have to utilize the bullet time mechanic in order to progress. Enemy bullets are extremely fast and some of them shoot in quick succession. It forces the player to practice different types of playstyles in order to beat a level but sadly comes out short for a good number of reasons. Now, many of the problems lie within the gameplay itself creating a game that becomes increasingly frustrating to play not because of the game being difficult by nature, but because the game has many design flaws that make it more unfair than not. To start off, the world is extremely detailed, which is fine and all if you do it right, but the world here is so bright with lights scattered every which way making it incredibly hard to track incoming bullets even with their long tracers. The bullets themselves are barely visible and the tracers don't help much if you can't even tell where they end. There's a reason why 'SUPERHOT' took place in a mostly colourless world, this is that reason. The other issue is the collision detection. I can't even count how many times I got stuck on something or ran into something completely invisible just to get shot shortly after. The level design in this game is futuristic needless to say, but everything is so jagged and has so many bumps that it made me wonder what was wrong with just having a flat wall? Rooms are also filled with objects whether it's furniture or debris or anything that can cause the player to get stuck. It's nice that the world doesn't look empty and lifeless, but for a game that relies on a clean layout like in (again) 'SUPERHOT', then it ends up being a detriment. Then comes the biggest annoyance that I've come across, the corpses. Yes, you'd think corpses would be a good thing but here, they're just there to cause a cheap death. The one thing that killed it for me when it came to this game was the fact that the corpses have collision. For whatever reason you can get stuck on a corpse while trying to dodge bullets and they can even mess up your aim. Sure they disappear shortly after you kill them but when you're moving (which you'll almost always be doing), they end up staying way longer than they should before finally despawning and you're most likely still fighting another enemy or two so you end up getting stuck trying to manoeuvre around already hard to see bullets just to die because of a stupid ragdoll. There's also some platforming sections which aren't too bad but let me just say that the movement in the game is not suited for platforming. The overall game is difficult and I managed to get to the end and beat an onslaught of enemies that was almost impossible unless I somehow managed to get them to shoot each other. It's almost entirely luck-based and guess what you get when you finally beat the game? Nothing. Yeah, how satisfying. 'Time Break 2121' I feel like could've been a great game and it actually isn't bad in some respects, but the flawed gameplay mechanics and overall game design just overshadows the semi-decent concept of bullet time.
Controls:
The game controls fine I guess but it's locked at 62 frames making gameplay feel choppy and hitting enemies awkward. There's a dash function that does somewhat come in handy but gunplay itself feels underwhelming and not very satisfying. There also aren't any control settings besides mouse sensitivity which is only accessible when you're in a level. Really...?
Graphics:
Again, done really well but makes the game harder to play. The whole sci-fi look is pretty neat and the weapons and enemies also look pretty cool. Lighting and shading is amazing and make the world look beautiful. Video settings (unlike controls) thankfully are available but for some reason always defaults to a specific resolution when returned to the main menu. Whether or not you're windowed mode or are playing a resolution that's anything but 1680x1050, the game will always change it to fullscreen 1680x1050. This becomes annoying because it basically means any resolution setting is useless. It even cuts off the right side of the screen. I'd like to play with my own preferences please and thank you.
Audio:
Kind of cool taking into account the whole sound distortion when it comes to time suddenly slowing down. It sounds awesome and the music also isn't bad. The problem is that there's no volume options. There's no way to lower music volume or any volume for that matter and the music plays obnoxiously loud throughout the entire game with no way to change it. My only question is, why is there literally no sound options? It's one thing to have an on or off button but to not have them at all? Now that's a new low.
Conclusion/TL;DR:
'Time Break 2121' is a first person bullet time shooter directly inspired by the more popular (and refined) game 'SUPERHOT' but implements reversed mechanics where the player slows time while moving rather than standing. It's not a bad game and offers quite a challenge but is riddled with many game flaws that can turn many players off. It has bad and unnecessary collisions, graphics so detailed that it makes dodging bullets confusing and every issue mentioned about the game, 'SUPERHOT' doesn't have. Honestly if 'Time Break 2121' just did what 'SUPERHOT' did, it'd be a great. But with how it is right now, it plays good on a conceptual level but doesn't actually do it very well in practice. To think it used to cost a hefty amount as well, I'm glad I was able to at least play it for free because honestly if I had to pay the amount needed to play this game before, I'd definitely say just get the other game.
Lost on Steam EP. 22
This is one of the 3 featured games in the weekly Sunday show. An unboxing for video games! You can watch the highlights of this game and the two others featured this week here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4tTyBbLiSQ [Thoughts and First Impressions] Time Break 2121 is a really neat idea. If you've ever played SUPERHOT then you already kind of know this type of game. You are presented with levels and each one is kind of a puzzle, really. There are going to be enemies placed in certain spots and you need to move through them without getting hit at all. How and where you move plus when you choose to use your limited ammo and when you use your knife will be critical to your success. The levels aren't anything too impressive, they definitely went for a cyberpunk kind of vibe and it works for the most part. The issue I have is that I wanted more decoration, more life in each of the levels. It's really just hallway to hallway, open area to open area etc etc. Does that ruin the game though? Not at all. I'd also like to see enemies not able to shoot while turning (as I died a few times to that and it feels bad when they shoot you behind them) as well as the bullet speed slowed down even more than it is. It would really add to the coolness. Overall the game is fun and I do think you could get a decent bit out of it. Is it 20$ fun? I don't think it's necessarily worth THAT price, but on sale at half off I'd find this to be an easy recommend to most people. TIME break 2121, zamanı kontrol ettiğiniz yeni Bilim Kurgu/Siberpunk FPS'dir. Ne zaman dursan zaman akar; hareket edersen durur. O yüzden hareket etmeye devam etsen iyi olur! Reflekslerinizi ayarlayın, tabancanızı kılıfından çıkarın, bıçağınızı kapın ve çok az kişinin gördüğü gibi hızlı bir deneyime atlayın.
Pros: -Good visuals, playing some of the maps in this game, they seem visually good for the most part. -Gameplay is pretty interesting, it's sort of like SuperHot but reversed, Being able to run as fast as a bullet is pretty cool, and you basically feel like a lethal speedster. -Levels are pretty basic, each level has enemies where it can keep on your toes. Cons: -For me I get these lag spikes that ruin my rhythm in a level I'm playing, and my PC is able to play games like MGSV and Sekiro, and that's saying something. -For the ability to go at super speed was a very awesome idea, that I think every speedster fan would love to play, but it's disappointing that there's no upgrade system, like some upgrades where you can go faster, time goes slower until it's maxed out where everything's at a standstill. or get additional abilities where you won't need any weapons and can push enemies away and have them get slammed against another enemy, just missed the mark there. -AI seem broken, like there are times where they shoot you even when their back was facing you. -Dash ability is pretty useless considering that you are faster than a bullet in this game. -Plus having forced to have a loadout you don't want, it seems annoying that you can't pick which gun you want to use or can pick if you can go in fists only or not. -Lack of story, I really like to know how we got our abilities, or show us what this world is and what is this world's story, I feel like it makes players stay to play this game for at least a little longer. -Also wished that there would be some cosmetics where you can have like a cool trail, or maybe have a 3rd person mode, just to be a much more different compared to superhot, I feel like there is some potential for it to be it's own game, but falls flat.
3/10 A SuperHot-like shooter where time moves while you stand still, and time slows when you move. Good: - the idea is the reverse of SuperHot and looks interesting - they made it free now So-so: - gfx are okay-ish but the GUI design is pretty rough. There are messages in big font overlaying the view and some basic settings in the options. From the limited number of options and cheap UI design you'd think it's more like a prototype or a pre-alpha build, but this actually was once released for $20 - music is thematic by also isn't that great Bad: - the gameplay just doesn't work and you see why in the very first levels. First, the knife's attack is imprecise and you end up stabbing multiple times before you actually hit an enemy close up. Second, there is no feedback to see if your hits were successful: since during your movement the rest of the world has time slowed down for it, defeated enemies start falling very slowly and at a significant delay. There is no blood spatter, so you would be hitting an enemy multiple times but need to simply stop moving to see if this has had any effect. Third, your bullets fly with the world's speed, not yours. So, once you shoot, there is no way to know if the bullet will hit and kill the enemy unless you stop and let it reach the target. But if there are multiple enemies in the room, stopping means you will get shot yourself. - it's actually difficult to target enemies precisely while moving. Especially if they are far away - enemies are of the same color as the scenery (blue-ish gray), and it's hard to see them - there are many columns in the rooms, they make strafing and backtracking difficult: you run in to a corner and get stuck. This stops your movement and enables time progression for the enemies. Which means, while you try to navigate the room in haste, you stumble when it wasn't your intent, fumble around and get shot. It's not fun at all. It's like the environment itself is intentionally designed to make the main game's mechanic fail. I dropped the game on the second tutorial level. It's just not worth the hassle. Can't understand why they even bothered releasing this. This game should have been cancelled at the prototype stage since its core mechanic unfortunately doesn't work (though it is interesting on paper!). Maybe it could work with big open levels like in Serious Sam, I don't know. Or your bullets shouldn't be affected by the world's time and instead be in sync with your time. All this should have been ironed out early in development, not after release. So yes the game it's self is good but the levels are incredibly difficult there are a lot of glitches as well. For example when the enemy is turned one way they shoot behind them and kill me instantly and when a bullet is about to touch me (And I can easily avoid it) even slightly graze me from the side of the bullet the game says "You have received critical damage" Now that's just bull shiz. If this game becomes any better and fixes the problems I encountered then this would be a world of fun.
Before I played Time Break 2121, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
